Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The student successfully addresses all parts of the task by reporting the main trends and making relevant comparisons across the categories of injuries. An overview is provided, highlighting the substantial overall increase and the dominance of slight injuries. However, there are a few minor numerical inaccuracies when citing figures from the table (e.g., stating 846 instead of 864 for the total in 1998-1999, 2376 instead of 2367 in 2003-2004, and minor repetitions like '3821 in 2005-2006' instead of the final year 2006-2007). Despite these occasional slips in data transcription, the overall response covers the requirements well and provides a clear summary of the visual data.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response is logically organized with a clear introduction, an overview paragraph, and well-defined body paragraphs dedicated to different injury types. Cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'In 1998-1999', 'then', and 'However' are used effectively to guide the reader through the data. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and referencing is generally clear, contributing to an overall coherent structure.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate to good range of vocabulary suitable for a Task 1 response, utilizing terms like 'substantially', 'proportion', 'fluctuated', and 'peak'. There are some spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'throughtout', 'consideriable', and 'reached at its peak' (where 'reached its peak' would be correct). Nevertheless, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning without impeding communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
A mix of simple and complex sentence structures is used throughout the response, including temporal clauses and comparative structures. There are several grammatical and mechanical errors, such as missing articles ('reached at its peak'), preposition errors, and minor transcription/number confusions. However, these errors do not impede communication, and the majority of sentences maintain good control over grammar and punctuation.
