Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response addresses the task only partially, presenting some main features of the table while including unclear descriptions and confusion over the data. The writer attempts to outline trends for fatal, serious, and slight injuries, such as noting that fatal injuries rose to 95 before falling, and that serious injuries increased from 162. However, the overview is extremely weak and confused, reading 'total paricipant grew more than fluctuation'. Furthermore, several sentences contain garbled or nonsensical reporting of the figures, such as 'number of slight almost hightest figure double time than other'. The lack of clarity and missed comparisons prevent the response from achieving a higher score.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response demonstrates some organisation with basic paragraph breaks, but there is no clear overall progression of ideas. The arrangement of information is disjointed, and the relationships between data points are obscured by poor cohesion. Cohesive devices are either missing, inadequate, or used incorrectly, such as the sudden transition 'A different trend serious but quiet opposite'. Referencing is frequently unclear, and the mechanical flow hinders readability throughout the text. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal logical links within paragraphs are weak, resulting in a disjointed structure that fails to guide the reader smoothly through the information.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is limited and basic, resulting in frequent errors that cause difficulty for the reader. There are spelling mistakes, such as 'Greate' instead of 'Great', 'paricipant' instead of 'participants', and 'hightest' instead of 'highest'. Word choices are often unnatural or incorrect, such as 'the significant flow' instead of 'peak' or 'high', and 'topest increase' instead of 'greatest percentage increase'. The student attempts less common vocabulary, but inaccurate word forms and collocations severely restrict precision and impede communication at times.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response features a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on basic, faulty attempts at complex sentences. Frequent errors occur across verb forms, tense consistency, and sentence construction, such as 'which was gradually increase hole time' and 'the number of fatals started falling rest of the period took part in the survey.' Articles and prepositions are frequently omitted or misused, and punctuation is weak. These frequent errors cause considerable difficulty for the reader and demonstrate a lack of control over basic sentence patterns.
