Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the task partially by presenting some key data from the table, such as the initial figures for 1998 and final figures for 2007, along with overall percentage increases. However, the selection of data is somewhat disjointed and incomplete. While you note that slight injuries were the highest and fatal injuries were the lowest throughout the period, some of the specific numbers cited contain inaccuracies or typos, such as referencing '3269' instead of '3296' for slight injuries in 2005-2006, and the response cuts off abruptly at the end while attempting to compare serious injuries. To move to a higher band, you need to select and report data more accurately, ensure all main features are fully developed without trailing off, and provide a clearer overview of the entire dataset.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some basic organization evident, beginning with an introductory sentence and attempting an overview. However, there is no clear overall progression across the body of the response. Cohesive devices are sometimes mechanical or inaccurately used, such as the abrupt transitions ('By contrast', 'It is also noteworthy that', 'whereas'). Paragraphing is initiated with a traditional introduction and body structure, but the final sentence fragments and leaves the response incomplete, which disrupts the logical flow. To improve, you should ensure that each paragraph has a distinct focus, that ideas are linked smoothly, and that sentences are completed logically to maintain a coherent narrative throughout the text.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'dominant', 'percentage increase', and 'categories'. However, there are noticeable lexical errors and awkward word choices, such as 'crimes statistics from gun and knife causing', 'icrease' (spelling), 'injurires', and 'occuring'. These errors sometimes cause minor strain for the reader, though communication is generally maintained. To achieve a higher band, you should expand your vocabulary range, use precise collocations related to statistical data (e.g., 'accounted for', 'experienced an upward trend'), and carefully check your spelling and word forms before finishing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response demonstrates a limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on simple constructions and straightforward compound sentences. When attempting complex structures, errors frequently occur, such as missing verbs or incomplete clauses at the end of the text ('whereas, serious remained second most dominan'). There are also occasional issues with prepositions and articles. Errors are frequent enough to cause difficulty or confusion for the reader in places. To reach a higher band, you need to incorporate a wider variety of complex grammatical structures with greater accuracy, ensuring that all sentences are grammatically complete and controlled.
