Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response attempts to address the prompt by reporting information from the table, but it only partially covers the data. While it touches on the categories of injuries, it misinterprets key terminology throughout the text, referring to fatal injuries as fetal or sprain. Furthermore, the selection of data is fragmented and lists raw numbers mechanically without providing a clear, overarching summary of the main trends. The overview is weak, attempting to state general patterns but containing confusing phrasing and factual inaccuracies regarding which figures were highest. To reach a higher level, the response needs to accurately identify the data categories, select key features rather than listing isolated figures, and provide a fully developed overview of the main trends across the decade.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The text is organized into paragraphs, but there is a lack of clear overall progression and logical linking between ideas. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or repetitively, such as the mechanical sequencing with phrases like 'To begin with', 'Secondly', and 'Furthermore'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the flow of information. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal paragraph structure lacks unity and clear thematic focus. To improve, the writer should ensure smooth transitions between sentences, use cohesive devices more naturally, and structure paragraphs so that each focuses on a distinct, logically developed aspect of the data.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is very limited and contains frequent word choice and spelling errors that impede communication. Throughout the text, the writer misuses key terms, such as writing 'fetal' and 'Sprain' instead of 'fatal', and misspelling words like 'Britian', 'incrsease', 'recored', 'adittion', 'climped', and 'ouccured'. There is little evidence of less common lexical items, and the repetitive reliance on basic phrasing restricts the quality of the response. To progress, the student needs to learn correct terminology for data description, improve basic spelling, and expand their range of vocabulary to discuss trends and statistics more precisely.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response displays a limited range of grammatical structures, and the attempts at complex sentences frequently contain errors. There are frequent mistakes in basic grammar, including article omission, incorrect prepositions (e.g., 'in between', 'with passage of time'), and flawed subject-verb agreement or tense consistency. Punctuation errors are also noticeable, such as erratic spacing around punctuation marks and incomplete sentence structures. To achieve a higher band, the writer must improve control over basic sentence construction, ensure accurate use of verb tenses when describing past data, and reduce the frequency of grammatical errors that cause difficulty for the reader.
