Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
The response fails to meet the minimum length requirement of 150 words, stopping at only 109 words. Furthermore, the content suffers from major misinterpretations of the data provided in the table. The student confuses actual injury counts with percentage increases, stating incorrectly that 'fatal injuries decreased 49-18' (which actually represents the 1998-2006 percentage increase for fatal injuries) and misunderstanding the total percentage increase column entirely. The overview is inaccurate and missing key comparisons, meaning the task is addressed only minimally and tangentially.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The writing is organized into a single, dense paragraph rather than being properly structured with an introduction and distinct body paragraphs. Although basic cohesive devices and transition signals like 'Where', 'Then', and 'And lastly' are attempted, they are used inaccurately, disrupting the logical flow and progression of ideas. References to the data are difficult to follow because sentences lack clear structural connections, making the overall arrangement hard to navigate for the reader.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive, frequently relying on phrases lifted directly from the prompt such as 'gun and knife crime in Great-Britain'. There are significant lexical inaccuracies and misuses of statistical terminology, such as confusing absolute numbers with percentages and using words like 'unacceptable' and 'alarming' instead of objective descriptors. Spelling and word choice issues are apparent throughout the text, though communication is just barely maintained on a literal level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The grammatical range is extremely limited, relying heavily on clumsy, poorly constructed sentence patterns. There are frequent errors in basic sentence structure, verb forms, and prepositions, such as 'the living people of surrounded in Great-Britain' and missing auxiliary verbs. Punctuation is also problematic, with incorrect hyphenation and missing commas. These errors occur consistently across almost every sentence, often causing difficulty and confusion for the reader.
