Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response engages with the table minimally and presents a limited overview that is largely inaccurate. While the student attempts to highlight some statistics, many of the figures and trends reported do not align with the provided data, such as misinterpreting the percentage increases as raw counts or getting years confused. For instance, stating that 'fatal injury was plunged at 80%' or claiming that 'serious and slight injury was surged at 392 and 1390' demonstrates a misunderstanding of how to read the data correctly. Furthermore, key features like the overall totals and the percentage increase column are inadequately summarised, resulting in a response that fails to fully cover the main trends.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response is organized into paragraphs, attempting an introduction, body paragraphs, and an overall summary. However, the logical progression is frequently disrupted. Cohesive devices are used mechanically or incorrectly, such as 'In contrast, there was no any serious and slight injury occured in 2006-2007', which misinterprets the missing data in the table. Referencing between sentences is often unclear, and the overall arrangement lacks a smooth, coherent flow of information, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison of data across the years.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with noticeable errors in word choice and word formation. Examples include 'injusries' (injuries), 'propotianated' (proportionated), and awkward phrasing like 'the highest fatal injury happened'. There are also frequent spelling and collocation inaccuracies, such as 'crime happened was gradually increased' instead of crime rates rising. While the range is sufficient to attempt descriptions of data, the errors and unnatural collocations occasionally cause strain for the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The grammatical structures are very limited, consisting mostly of simple and attempted complex sentences that contain frequent errors. There are persistent issues with verb forms, tenses, and voice, such as 'serious and slight injury occured from Gun and Knife crime was accounted at' and 'fatal injury was plunged at 80%'. Prepositional errors and missing articles are common throughout the text. These frequent errors in grammar and punctuation can cause difficulty and confusion for the reader regarding the intended meaning.
