Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response attempts to address the task by describing the main features of the table concerning gun and knife crime statistics in Great Britain. However, the coverage is only partial and lacks precision. While you mention the three categories of injuries and note the overall increase of 342 percent, your description of the trends is overly generalized and contains inaccuracies—for instance, claiming that fatal injuries 'remained to increase' when the figures actually fluctuate considerably (dropping from 95 in 2001-2002 to 49 in 2005-2006). Furthermore, the data for 2006-2007 is omitted from your summary. To reach a higher band, you need to provide a more accurate and comprehensive overview of the data without misinterpreting specific trends or missing key figures.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response presents some organization, beginning with an introductory sentence and attempting to group information by injury categories. However, there is no clear overall progression, and the text suffers from poor paragraphing, as the entire body of the report is clumped into one massive block of text. Cohesive devices are weak and repetitive; phrases like 'The given data is' and 'is also showing' are overused, making the flow mechanical rather than natural. Additionally, referencing is sometimes unclear, such as how you transition between the different injury types. To improve, you should organize your writing into distinct, logical paragraphs (such as an overview paragraph and separate detail paragraphs) and use a wider, more accurate variety of linking words to connect your ideas smoothly.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the task. Throughout the response, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors—such as 'threatning' (threatening), 'svereness' (severity), 'isted' (instead), 'catagories' (categories), 'previus' (previous), and 'continuesly' (continuously)—which cause some difficulty for the reader and impact the precision of your report. You attempt some less common vocabulary, but these lexical errors reveal a lack of control. To achieve a higher score, you must expand your range of vocabulary to describe data trends (such as 'fluctuate', 'surge', or 'plateau') and pay closer attention to accurate spelling and word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on basic patterns and present continuous tenses. When you attempt more complex structures or descriptive phrases, they are frequently faulty, such as in the sentence 'Number of fatal injuries remained to increase as shown by data from 1998 to 2007 but showing a variation...' Furthermore, there are frequent errors in verb forms, prepositions inside grammatical patterns, and article usage. These errors are dense enough to cause strain and difficulty for the reader. To improve, you need to incorporate a wider variety of error-free complex sentences, ensure correct subject-verb agreement, and exercise better control over tense consistency when reporting past statistical data.
