Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses the task only partially, presenting an attempt to summarise the data from the table, but the selection of main features is disjointed. Some information is misreported or mechanically lifted from the source without clear contextual understanding, such as referring to 'button out' and misinterpreting data availability notes. The overview is weak and lacks a clear, cohesive summary of the primary trends shown across the ten-year period. To move up, the response needs to more accurately and fully select, report, and compare the key trends and figures, ensuring the overview highlights the overall direction of the data clearly.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some basic organisation in the response, but it lacks a clear overall progression. Paragraphing is fragmented, and sentences often follow one another without adequate logical links or transitions. Cohesive devices are either missing, inadequate, or mechanical, which makes the progression jumpy and sometimes difficult to follow. For instance, moving between injury types and years lacks smooth signposting. To achieve a higher band, the writer must ensure ideas are logically sequenced with clear transitions between sentences and paragraphs, establishing a more coherent and easy-to-follow narrative throughout the report.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary range is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The writer attempts some topic-specific terms like 'fatal', 'serious', and 'slight injuries', but struggles with accurate word choice and word formation, leading to noticeable errors such as 'crime result', 'slightly injuries', 'serios', and 'fata cases'. These lexical slips sometimes cause strain and confusion for the reader. To improve, the writer should build a stronger repertoire of academic vocabulary, focus on correct word forms and parts of speech, and practice precise collocations for describing data trends accurately.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple or faulty complex attempts. There are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that can cause difficulty for the reader, including missing articles ('Table shows', 'Percentage of these data'), incorrect verb forms ('have gradually increase', 'cases rapidly increases'), and subject-verb agreement issues. To progress, the writer needs to increase control over basic grammatical structures, ensure consistent tense usage when reporting past data, and reduce errors in plurals, prepositions, and clause formation.
