Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the main pattern that slight injuries were the most numerous and fatal injuries the least, and you include several relevant figures. However, the response only partially covers the table: it omits the total column and its 342% increase, and the overview claim that injuries decreased “in the last year” is not supported by the available 2006–07 data, which gives only fatal injuries. There are also factual errors: serious injuries peaked at 476 in 2005–06, not 2005–06 after a steady rise (they fell from 437 to 411 before rising), and the percentage increases are described as occurring “during the whole period” without clarifying the table’s endpoint. The response is 137 words, below the 150-word minimum; the 21 words copied from the prompt are excluded. Include a fuller overview and accurately select key comparisons.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic paragraph structure: an introduction and overview are followed by details on slight, serious and fatal injuries. This gives the reader some organisation, and phrases such as “By contrast” help signal comparison. However, progression is limited because the figures are presented in separate, short statements rather than grouped into a clear comparison of the main trends. “At the end” is an imprecise transition, and the final sentence repeats percentage information without linking it clearly to the earlier discussion. Some connections are also difficult to follow, particularly the overview’s claim about a decrease in the last year. Group related trends together, use transitions to show changes over time, and ensure each paragraph has a clear purpose.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant task vocabulary, including “fatal,” “serious,” “slight,” “proportion,” and “fluctuated,” so the topic is generally clear. There is some attempt to vary wording with phrases such as “by contrast” and “remained by far lowest.” However, several spelling errors—“accoount,” “seriuos,” “steadly,” “decresed,” and “maaxiumum”—are noticeable, and some word combinations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “the proportion increased” and “number of injuries increased.” “Proportion” is also not the best term when reporting counts. Use precise terms such as “number,” “figure,” and “percentage increase,” and check spelling and collocations carefully to make the data description more natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a few different sentence patterns, including a contrast clause beginning “However” and the comparison “By contrast,” but the range remains limited and errors occur frequently. For example, “The number of slight injuries were” has subject–verb disagreement; “Serious injury numbers were also increased” uses an incorrect verb construction; and “number of fatal injuries were fluctuated” combines an unsuitable passive form with disagreement. Articles and sentence punctuation are also inconsistent, as in “Figure for fatal injuries” and the run-on spacing around “injuries,at 162.” These errors sometimes make relationships between figures less clear. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and subject–verb agreement, and proofread each sentence for articles, verb forms and punctuation.
