Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the table’s subject and report several relevant patterns, including the peak of 95 fatal injuries in 2001–02, the 476 serious injuries in 2005–06, and the overall percentage increases. However, the response only partly summarises the data: it has no clear overview of the main trends, and it focuses on individual fatal-injury figures rather than comparing the categories as a whole. Some details are inaccurate or unclear: the figures are counts of injuries, not percentages, and the lowest fatal count of 49 occurred in both 1998–99 and 2005–06, not 1999 and 2006 as calendar years. The statement that 1998 had the fewest slight injuries is correct, but the later sharp rise is not described with specific comparisons. Select the main trends and report them accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response is divided into paragraphs that broadly group fatal injuries, serious injuries and slight injuries, and linking expressions such as “In contrast” and “Furthermore” show an attempt to connect information. However, there is no clear overall progression: the opening moves immediately into a claim about the highest death rate, and the discussion then jumps between years and categories. Some connections are difficult to follow, particularly the long sequence of fatal figures and “2000 and 2004 were around 60%.” Cohesive devices are sometimes mechanical, while references such as “also more victims” do not clearly identify the comparison. A clearer structure—introduction, overview, then grouped comparisons—would help readers follow the main features.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some task-related vocabulary, including “fatal,” “serious injuries,” “percentage increase” and “mortality rate,” and you attempt to describe comparisons. However, spelling errors and inaccurate or unnatural word choices are frequent enough to make parts of the response difficult to read: “illustrstes,” “sight,” “resut,” “victums” and “mortility” are examples. Several expressions also confuse the data, such as “95%” and “death rate” for a count of fatal injuries, and “medically serious people” for people with serious injuries. Repetition of “injuries” and “rate” limits the range. Use precise table vocabulary consistently, and check spelling and collocations before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
There are attempts to use more than simple statements, including “While 2001-2002 which have more death rate” and “In contrast 1998 have less…,” but these structures are often incomplete or inaccurate. For example, “While 2001-2002 which have…” is a fragment, and “1998 have less” has incorrect tense and agreement. Sentence boundaries and punctuation are also unreliable: several long sequences of figures are joined with commas, while spaces after full stops are missing. These errors frequently make relationships between ideas unclear. Build accurate simple sentences first—for example, “Fatal injuries peaked at 95 in 2001–02”—then add controlled comparisons using clauses such as “whereas” or “while.”
