Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify several relevant features, including the overall rise in recorded injuries, the low fatal-injury figures, the peak of 95 fatalities in 2001–2002, and the highest total of 3,912 in 2004–2005. However, the response only partially summarises the table: it gives little account of the serious-injury trend or the sharp increase in slight injuries, and there is no clear, balanced overview of the main patterns. Some claims are inaccurate or unclear. For example, saying that no serious or slight injuries were recorded in 2006–2007 is unsupported: those entries are dashes, meaning figures are not provided, not that there were none. The statement that 2004–2005 was the highest “in all the following years” is also imprecise, since the total fell to 3,821 in 2005–2006.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has a basic sequence, moving from an opening statement to yearly figures and then to injury categories, and words such as “whereas,” “while” and “however” attempt to connect comparisons. However, the progression is difficult to follow because the information is not grouped into clear paragraphs or organised around the main trends. The opening combines a general claim with an unclear contrast about the 1990s, and later details jump between totals, fatal injuries and serious injuries. Some connections are also misleading: “No serious or slight injuries were recorded” treats missing data as a result. Group the overview separately, then compare totals and injury categories in a logical order, using clear references to the relevant years.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “fatal injuries,” “serious injuries,” “slight injuries,” “recorded” and “increase,” so the topic is generally understandable. There are also attempts at more expressive language, such as “surge” and “crime spree,” but these are not consistently appropriate for a neutral statistical summary. Several phrases are awkward or imprecise, including “statistics of gun and knife crime,” “highest amount of fatal injuries,” and “the 90s era was much peaceful.” Spelling errors such as “masive” and “occured” are noticeable, while “casualties” and “victims” are used where “injuries” or “cases” would be more precise. Aim for accurate, neutral collocations and check spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences with contrast, for example, “The fatal injuries remained below hundred during all years while the slight injuries increased rapidly.” Meaning is usually recoverable, but grammatical control is uneven. Articles and number expressions are missing or inaccurate in “below hundred” and “the highest amount of fatal injuries”; the latter also creates an awkward singular construction. The sentence beginning “The highest number of serious injuries mentioned are 476” has a mismatch between “number” and “are,” and “while 162 victims being the lowest” is not a complete clause. Punctuation and spacing also need attention, particularly the missing space after the first full stop. Use complete comparison clauses and check agreement, articles and sentence boundaries.
