Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the table’s subject and provide an overview that slight injuries were the most numerous and increased most, which are relevant main features. However, the account is only partial: it gives few accurate comparisons across the period and does not explain the overall totals or the substantial rise in serious injuries. The figure of 3,424 is presented as the highest number of slight injuries, but it is the 2004–05 figure; the table’s highest is 3,296 in 2005–06. The statement that total injuries increased by 342% is also unclear: 342% is the table’s reported increase for the total, not a count of injuries. Select key figures accurately and distinguish counts from percentage changes.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic paragraph structure, moving from an introduction and overview to selected figures, so the reader can recognise the intended stages of a report. However, progression is limited: the body moves between injury categories and years without a clear organising principle, and several comparisons are difficult to follow. For example, “whereas the 3424 people were the highest number” does not clearly connect the figure to the year or category, while the final sentence combines three injury types and the total percentage in a confusing way. Linking words such as “And” at the start of the overview sentence are also not used effectively. Group the data by category or by period, and use clear references to connect each comparison.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “fatal,” “serious,” “slight,” “percentage,” and “recorded,” which helps communicate the subject. However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms are inaccurate or repetitive. Phrases such as “the most number of people,” “injury from fatal,” and “degree of injured people” are not natural ways to describe the data; “injuries” and “number of people” should be used more precisely. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “increasd,” “reecorded,” and “Thye.” These do not make the whole response unintelligible, but they reduce clarity and control. Practise standard collocations for describing figures, increases, and injury categories, and proofread spelling.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts a few longer structures, such as “where 49 people were injured” and “whereas the 3424 people were the highest number,” but control is inconsistent and sentence patterns are mostly simple. Agreement errors occur in “injuries that is causing” and “The slight injury were,” while the opening also uses an unsuitable tense for describing a table. Some sentence construction makes relationships unclear, particularly “The highest number of people injured as fatal was reecorded 95.” Punctuation is also uneven, including missing spaces after commas in “fatal, serious.” These recurring errors sometimes make the intended comparison harder to understand. Build accuracy with straightforward past-tense reporting structures first, then add complex clauses only when their relationships are clear.
