Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You identify the subject and include some relevant figures, such as 49 fatal injuries and 653 slight injuries in 1998–99, and the 405% rise in slight injuries. However, the account is only a partial summary: it gives no clear, accurate overview of the main pattern, and the final claim of a sharp rise in slight injuries in 2006–07 is unsupported because those figures are not provided. Some details are also inaccurate or unclear: serious injuries in 1998–99 were 162, not 163, and the 2005–06 slight figure was 3,296, after a peak of 3,424 in 2004–05. The response is 137 words, below the 150-word minimum; the 12 words copied from the task prompt were not counted. Select the main trends and compare them accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is a basic paragraph structure, with an opening, a body paragraph and a concluding overview, and sequencing expressions such as “Further” and “Afterward” show an attempt to connect information. However, the progression is difficult to follow because figures and time periods are introduced without a clear organising principle. For example, “Afterward marginally decrease in 1998-1999” does not make clear what decreased or when, and the conclusion repeats an unclear comparison rather than summarising the overall trend. Group the data by injury severity or by changes over time, and use linking phrases only when the relationship between points is clear. This would make the report easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “fatal,” “serious,” “slight,” “percentage,” and “marked increase,” so the reader can recognise the topic and intended comparisons. However, the range is limited and several spelling and word-choice errors reduce clarity, including “injiries,” “categoery,” “increas,” “significantely,” and “comparision.” Some phrases are also unnatural, such as “average of the … injuries” and “most high level of figur.” Use precise reporting language and check spelling: for example, describe the figures as “the number of injuries,” and say that a percentage was “the highest” or “rose by” a stated amount. More accurate collocations would make the data description clearer.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts both simple and more extended sentence forms, including a sentence beginning “Looking at the information in more detail” and a comparison introduced by “while.” However, control is inconsistent, and several sentences are incomplete or difficult to interpret. “Further, a marked increase was observed in 2001-2002 in fatal about 95” lacks a clear grammatical connection between the category and figure, while “Afterward marginally decrease…” has no clear subject and uses an incorrect verb form. The opening sentence also has an awkward structure, and punctuation around the figures is unreliable. Practise writing complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, then check tense and sentence boundaries before adding complex clauses.
