Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You identify the main overall patterns: slight injuries had the largest percentage rise (405%), while fatal injuries had the smallest (18%). You also report several key figures accurately, including the starting and ending counts for serious and slight injuries and the total rising from 864 to 3,821 by 2005–06. This covers the task well, with a clear overview and relevant comparisons. However, some details are less fully developed: the fatal-injury account says the figures rose and fell but does not give the peak of 95 in 2001–02 or clarify the later fluctuations. Also, the table has no serious, slight or total figures for 2006–07, so “at the end” should be specified as 2005–06. The overview and selection are strong, but more precise time references would improve completeness.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, an overview, and separate discussion of fatal, serious, slight and total injuries. This makes the main comparisons easy to locate, and phrases such as “Overall” and “After that period” help signal progression. However, the linking is sometimes mechanical, with repeated use of “over the period” and “resulting in,” and the fatal-injury paragraph’s sequence of “incline and decline” is not sufficiently specific to make the trend easy to follow. Some references are also imprecise: “at the end” could mean 2006–07, although the final available figures for most categories are from 2005–06. Use clearer time markers and vary the links between figures and trends to make the progression more precise.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough topic vocabulary to communicate the data, including “percentage increase,” “cases,” “significantly” and “substantially.” There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “experienced” and “resulting in.” However, several choices are unnatural or imprecise for describing a table: “table graph,” “harmful, critical and minor injuries,” “encountered many victims,” and “faced an incline and decline.” “Marginally” also understates the rise in serious injuries from 162 to 476. These collocation and word-choice issues do not prevent understanding, but they make the report less natural and precise. Prefer standard terms such as “fatal, serious and slight injuries,” and use verbs like “rose,” “fluctuated” and “accounted for” to describe the figures.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mixture of simple and more complex sentence forms, including clauses with “whereas,” “after that period” and “resulting in.” Most of the meaning remains clear, but some grammatical errors and awkward constructions reduce accuracy. For example, “injuries resulted from gun and knife crime” needs a form such as “injuries resulting from,” while “starting from 162 number of cases” has an incorrect noun construction. In “the number of slight injuries cases,” the noun phrase is not formed correctly, and “till the end of period” is missing an article. There is also inconsistent phrasing around time periods. Check articles, possessive or compound noun forms, and sentence construction; these corrections would make the range you attempt more controlled.
