Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5

The response identifies the broad pattern that slight injuries were most numerous and fatal injuries least numerous, and it notes that the final year has no serious or slight figures. However, it reports only a small part of the table and does not provide a sufficiently developed summary or meaningful comparisons across the period. The figure of 3,424 is assigned to 2005–2006, although it belongs to 2004–2005; the total was highest in 2004–2005. The statement that 2006–2007 has no fatal records is also inaccurate: the table gives 58 fatal injuries. The response is 90 words, below the required 150, which further limits coverage. Include a clear overview and select accurate figures to show the main changes.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is a basic paragraph structure: an introduction, an overview beginning “Overall,” and a detail paragraph introduced by “To begin.” This gives the reader some sense of organisation. However, the response ends after one brief detail, so there is no clear progression through the table or comparison of the different injury categories over time. The link between the overview and the example in the final paragraph is also weak, and “followed by serious with just over 470 case” is left without a complete comparison or explanation. Develop the body into logically ordered comparisons, for example by describing the overall rise and then contrasting the injury categories. Use linking phrases to clarify relationships rather than relying on paragraph openers alone.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The response uses some relevant vocabulary, including “percentage increase,” “slight injuries,” and “serious,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “the highest affect from the crimes” and “received the most.” “Amount” is also not the best fit for countable injury cases, and “case” should be plural in the final phrase. These choices make parts of the description difficult to interpret precisely. Aim for accurate, task-specific expressions such as “number of injuries,” “recorded,” and “accounted for,” and use the same terminology consistently when comparing categories and years.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response includes a few straightforward sentence forms and an overview sentence with a comparison, so the basic meaning is usually recoverable. However, the range is narrow, and errors occur in several sentences. For example, “crimes occured with results of fatal, serious and slight injuries” has an unclear grammatical relationship, while “The year 2004 to 2005 received the most” uses an unsuitable subject and verb construction. The final sentence fragment, “followed by serious with just over 470 case,” is incomplete. Check sentence completeness, subject–verb relationships, and plural forms, and practise combining accurate simple statements into clear comparisons. More controlled sentence structures would make the data easier to follow.
