Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify the table’s subject and report several relevant figures, including the starting and ending fatal-injury counts and the overall percentage increases. However, the overview is unclear and partly inaccurate: fatal injuries rose to 95 in 2001–02 before falling, rather than simply “increased first and then decreased by 2007,” and the final figure of 58 is higher than the initial 49. The table gives no serious or slight injury figures for 2006–07, so attributing 476 and 3,296 to 2007 misstates the period; both are 2005–06 values. The total peaked at 3,912 in 2004–05, not 2004. The response is also 2 words below the 150-word minimum; 13 words copied from the prompt were excluded. Select and describe the data more accurately, with a clearer overview.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic sequence: an introduction, an overview, and then details about injury categories and totals. Connectors such as “Overall” and “On the other hand” show an attempt to guide the reader. However, the progression is not consistently clear: the overview mixes trends with specific figures, and the final paragraph moves to totals without a clear transition. Some linking phrases do not express the relationship accurately, while repeated references to “overall increase” make the account feel list-like. Grouping the injury categories together and then discussing totals, with each paragraph focused on a clear purpose, would improve organisation. Use linking words selectively and make sure references such as “by 2007” clearly identify the relevant table year.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “fatal,” “serious,” “slight,” “increased,” and “declined,” so the main topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or repetitive. “The e statistics of the crime rate” is unclear, and “crimes related to serious injuries” does not accurately describe the table, which records injuries. “Stats” is informal for an academic summary, while “value” and “overall increase” recur without much variation. There are also spelling errors such as “Britian,” “amn,” and “cimes,” which reduce precision. Use the table’s terminology consistently and choose precise verbs for trends and comparisons; this would make the report clearer and more appropriately formal.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, including “The total figure … increased throughout with minimum value in 1998 … and the highest value in 2004…”. However, control is uneven, and errors in sentence construction, agreement, articles, and punctuation sometimes make the meaning difficult to follow. For example, “Only fatal injuries was the one” has faulty agreement and an awkward clause structure, while “the crimes … were at 162” does not form a clear grammatical description of the figure. Missing spaces and punctuation, as in “injuries.Only” and “2007with,” also interrupt reading. Practise building accurate comparison sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check agreement and sentence boundaries. More reliable control of these basic patterns would make your attempted complex sentences easier to understand.
