Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
The response identifies the topic and attempts an overview, but it does not adequately summarise the table’s main features. The claim that crime figures rose “except the last year” is unclear, and saying there were “no serious or slight injuries” in 2006–07 misreads the dashes, which indicate that those figures are unavailable. You correctly identify 95 fatal injuries in 2001–02 as the peak, but the comparison with the lowest figures is imprecise, and the response ends before reporting the serious- and slight-injury trends or the percentage increases. The statement that people were “most happy” is unsupported and inappropriate for describing these statistics. The response is 118 words, below the 150-word minimum; the eight words copied from the prompt are excluded from that count. Include a complete overview and select accurate comparisons.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an introductory sentence is followed by an overview and then a detail paragraph, with “Overall,” “To begin with,” and “In contrast” used to signal relationships. However, progression is difficult to follow because the discussion jumps from the final years to 2001–02 and then to the first and later years without a clear sequence. The unfinished fragments, “The figures fo serius injuries” and the isolated “Citizens…” paragraph, interrupt the flow and leave ideas disconnected. Paragraphing is also inconsistent, including a stray space before the final section. Group the overview separately, then compare the injury categories in a logical order, using clear links between complete sentences.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The response uses some task-related vocabulary, including “fatal injuries,” “serious injuries,” “proportion rise,” and “peak,” so the subject is generally recognisable. However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or unsuitable: “crime rates” does not describe the table’s injury counts, “the people … were the most happy” is not an appropriate interpretation of the data, and “proportion rise” is unclear. There are also spelling errors such as “catagories” and “serius,” while “in the between” is an awkward phrase. These issues make parts of the report imprecise. Use standard statistical language such as “number of injuries,” “increased,” and “percentage rise,” and check spelling and collocations before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts a few sentence forms, including an overview beginning “Overall, it is evident that…” and a comparison introduced by “In contrast.” Some basic meaning is conveyed, but grammatical control is inconsistent. For example, “in the between 1998 and 2007” has an incorrect prepositional construction, and “the number of crime rates were” has faulty subject–verb agreement. The sentence about the final two years is also structurally unclear, while “Citizens of the UK experienced 95 fatal injury” has a number-agreement problem. Several sections are incomplete rather than full sentences, particularly “The figures fo serius injuries.” Build complete sentences with accurate agreement and tense, and proofread punctuation and sentence boundaries.
