Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the main pattern that slight injuries were the largest category and report the overall percentage increases, including 18%, 194% and 405%. However, the overview is not fully accurate: 49 is the lowest fatal figure, but the table’s lowest injury count overall is not clearly summarised, and the maximum total is 3,912 in 2004–05 rather than a general “maximum total” for slight injuries. There is also a significant data error: for 2000–01 you give 95 fatal injuries and a total of 1,877, which belong to 2001–02; the correct 2000–01 figures are 72, 244 and 1,066, totalling 1,382. Cover the later years more precisely and distinguish counts from percentage increases.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview and two detail paragraphs. This gives the reader a basic route through the information. However, progression is uneven: the third paragraph moves from the first year to 2000–01, then the final paragraph jumps to 2004–05 without explaining the intervening pattern. Linking words such as “Whereas,” “For remaining periods,” and “finally” are used, but some connections are awkward or do not clearly show the relationship between the figures. The overview also combines the highest injury category with percentage growth in a way that is difficult to follow. Group the years into clear stages and use comparisons to connect them, rather than presenting isolated figures.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “fatal,” “serious,” “slight,” “percentage increase” and “surge,” so the topic is generally clear. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “gun and knife,” “maximum total” for the slight-injury category, and “405% … was resulted in slight injuries.” “Proportion of crime” is also not an accurate description of the injury counts in the table. Repetition of “figures,” “injuries” and “increase” limits the range, while “mad up” appears to be a spelling error for “made up.” Aim for precise reporting verbs and phrases such as “the number of cases,” “accounted for,” and “rose to,” ensuring that the wording matches the data.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mixture of simple and more complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “while” and “whereas.” However, complex constructions are often faulty, and errors sometimes make relationships between figures unclear. For example, “Overall, highest numbers were observed” needs an article, while “the figures rose to 95, 244 and 1066 with a total of 1877” has a sentence structure that obscures which year the figures describe. The fragment beginning “Whereas, by 2000-2001” is not joined correctly to the preceding sentence. In “194% increase saw in serious injuries,” the verb pattern is incomplete. Work on articles, complete clause structure, subject–verb patterns and punctuation, and check that each sentence clearly identifies its year and category.
