Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify relevant broad features, including the dominance of slight injuries and the percentage increases of 405% for slight injuries and 18% for fatal injuries. However, the response only partially reports the table: the overview says injuries rose until 2005, but does not clearly describe the overall total’s sharp increase and subsequent fall, and the claim that 2006–07 had the fewest total injuries is unsupported because totals are not provided for that year. Some details are inaccurate or unclear: fatal injuries reached 95 in 2001–02, not 80 in 2002–03, and the missing figures apply to serious and slight injuries in 2006–07. Select the main trends more accurately and compare the total and injury categories with specific supporting figures.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has a basic paragraph structure, moving from an introduction and overview to details about fatal and other injuries, then percentage changes. This gives the reader some organisation. However, progression is not consistently clear: the second paragraph combines several trends, while the final paragraph repeats percentage information without connecting it to the earlier discussion. Linking words such as “Similarly” do not clearly establish the relationship between the categories, and references such as “this number” and “the other group” are vague. Group the information more deliberately—for example, describe the overall totals and slight injuries together, then compare fatal and serious injuries—and use clear references and transitions to guide the reader.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “severity,” “fluctuated,” “percentage,” and “significant rise,” and the reader can generally identify the categories being discussed. However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation, and spelling errors make parts difficult to follow. Examples include “number of injuries” where “number of injuries” needs an article in this sentence, “bodily harm” as an awkward substitute for injury categories, and “rise in proportion” when the table reports percentage increases. There are also misspellings such as “fluntuated,” “categpry,” and “sgnificant.” Use precise terms such as “injury figures,” “percentage increase,” and “fatal injuries,” and proofread spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a relative clause in “fatal injuries that had a decline” and a contrast introduced by “although.” However, control is inconsistent, and errors in sentence construction and verb forms sometimes make meaning difficult to follow. For example, “Overall, the number of injuries increased fro all the severity categories” contains a faulty verb phrase, while “although there increased significantly” lacks a correctly formed subject and verb. The long sentence beginning “In 1998 to 1999” also has unclear punctuation and tense control. Practise building accurate comparisons and compound sentences, checking subject–verb agreement, articles, and punctuation before adding more complex clauses.
