Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
The response identifies the topic and includes a few relevant figures, such as 653 slight injuries, 162 serious injuries and 49 fatal injuries in 1998–99. However, it does not provide a clear overview of the main trends, and several claims are inaccurate or unclear: the table records injuries, not “minor” or “serious” crimes, and figures are available for fatal injuries in 2006–07, so saying no serious and minor injuries were recorded is misleading. The statement that crimes increased until 2002 is also too vague to summarise the full period. The response is 67 words, below the required 150, which leaves most key comparisons and the overall pattern unreported. Include an overview and select accurate trends across the table.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an opening sentence is followed by an overall statement and then a short account of figures. The sequence from the general topic to an example from 1998 and later years is understandable. However, the response is too brief to develop a clear progression, and the links between ideas are sometimes awkward. For example, “Although, there is increment in crimes” is not smoothly connected to the claim that no injuries were recorded in the final year. The final sentence introduces a fall in severe injuries without explaining how this relates to the broader trend. Use separate, purposeful paragraphs for the overview and supporting comparisons, and connect each detail clearly to the trend it illustrates.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The response uses some relevant vocabulary, including “injuries,” “period,” “total” and “fall,” and the reader can generally identify the intended subject. However, the range is limited and several choices are imprecise for describing the table. “Minor accidents,” “major” and “severe” are not the table’s categories; use “slight,” “serious” and “fatal injuries.” “Increment in crimes” is also an unnatural phrase, and the table reports injury counts rather than crime counts. Repeating broad terms such as “crimes” and “injuries” limits precision. To improve, use the table’s exact category labels and accurate trend language, such as “rose,” “peaked” and “accounted for the largest increase,” where supported by the figures.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts both simple and more complex sentence forms, including “Although, there is increment in crimes but…” However, control is inconsistent. The opening phrase “describes about” uses an unnecessary preposition, and “there is increment” lacks an appropriate article. In “653 minor, 162 major and 49 severe injuries was happened,” the verb construction is incorrect and does not agree with the plural list; a form such as “there were” would be suitable. The sentence beginning “Although” is also punctuated and structured incorrectly, while “crimes are gradually increased” has an unsuitable verb form. These errors sometimes make relationships between ideas difficult to follow. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and build complete sentences with clear subject–verb agreement.
