Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the table’s subject and make a broad attempt to describe changes over time, including the rise in slight injuries and the irregular movement in fatal and serious cases. However, the account only partially reports the main features and includes unclear or inaccurate comparisons. For example, fatal injuries did not remain constant between 1998–99 and 2005–06: they were 49 in both years, but fluctuated considerably in between, peaking at 95. The claim that slight injuries almost doubled from 2003 to 2005 also understates the much larger rise, from 1,862 to 3,424. The overview is vague and does not clearly highlight the overall increase or the sharp rise in total injuries. Select key figures and explain the trends more precisely.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has paragraphs and some time-based sequencing, using phrases such as “Following it” and “In contrast to this” to connect ideas. However, progression is difficult to follow because the first paragraph combines several trends in a long, loosely connected sentence, and later paragraphs repeat the general point that figures rise and fall without developing a clear comparison. References such as “it” and “the table” are sometimes unclear, while “from 2002 to next two years” does not specify the period precisely. Organise the report into a clear introduction, an overview, and focused detail paragraphs—for example, one on injury categories and one on totals—and use linking expressions only where they clarify the relationship between points.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You attempt a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “fatal,” “serious,” “slight,” “surge,” and “irregular pattern.” This gives the response some relevant descriptive language, but the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or awkward, sometimes making the meaning harder to understand. “Physical mode of crime” is not a natural way to describe gun and knife offences, and “sets a major percent increase numbers” is unclear. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “Britian,” “experinced,” “injures,” and “percnet.” Use precise terms such as “injuries,” “figures,” and “percentage increase,” and check spelling carefully. Avoid using elaborate phrases when a straightforward description of the data would be clearer.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences with clauses, but complex structures are often faulty, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to interpret. For example, “in a year less than a decade the tables shows” has problems with sentence construction and subject–verb agreement, while “The table follows an irregular order of increase and decrease” does not form a clear grammatical description of the trends. Commas are also placed inconsistently, and some sentences run together. Practise building accurate short sentences first, then combine them with controlled clauses using “while,” “whereas,” or “although.” Check agreement, articles, and punctuation when editing each sentence.
