Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You identify the main overall pattern: total injuries rose substantially, slight injuries were consistently the most common, and the percentage increase was greatest for slight injuries. The opening and overview are relevant, and the figures for 1998–99 and the rise to 1,877 in 2001–02 are accurately reported. However, some important details are incomplete or imprecise. The total peaked at 3,912 in 2004–05, then fell to 3,821 in 2005–06, which is not mentioned. The account also stops short of reporting the final year’s fatal figure of 58, and the overview’s claim that serious and slight injuries showed the largest increases in numbers is less precise than comparing their percentage increases. Develop the later-period comparisons more fully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, an overview, and paragraphs describing the earlier and later figures. Time markers such as “In 1998-1999,” “In the following years,” and “From 2002 onwards” help the reader follow the sequence. The final paragraph also brings the percentage changes together. However, the progression is not fully controlled: the account says totals continued to increase to a peak but does not then mention the subsequent fall, leaving the later trend incomplete. Some links are repetitive, particularly the repeated use of “Overall,” and the final sentence restates the general rise without adding a new comparison. Grouping the data more deliberately—for example, separating the early rise from the 2004–06 peak and decline—would make the progression more cohesive.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of task-related vocabulary, including “fatal,” “serious,” “slight,” “fluctuated,” “rose sharply,” and “substantial rise.” These choices generally communicate the data clearly, and the response avoids excessive repetition of basic verbs. Some wording is imprecise or awkward, however. “Caused by gum and knife crimes” contains a spelling error and an unnatural crime label; “injuries resulting from gun and knife crime” would be more accurate. “Increased in numbers” is less natural than “recorded the largest percentage increases,” and “cases” is not as precise as “injuries” when describing the table. Aim for accurate collocations and distinguish clearly between absolute numbers and percentage changes.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including the participial phrase “making a total of 864 cases” and the comparison “compared with 194% for serious injuries.” Most sentences are understandable, and errors rarely obscure the intended meaning. Some punctuation and sentence-boundary control needs attention: several commas are joined directly to the next word, as in “Overall, the” and “increased, reaching,” while there is an unnecessary space before the full stop after “2004-2005 .” There are also occasional issues with spacing around hyphens and commas. These do not prevent comprehension, but careful proofreading would improve accuracy. Continue using varied structures while ensuring punctuation and spacing are consistently controlled.
