Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You identify the table’s subject and mention several figures, including 49 fatal cases and a total of 864 in 1998–99, as well as the absence of later serious and slight figures for 2006–07. However, the account only minimally summarises the data: it does not give a clear, accurate overview of the main trends, and several comparisons are incorrect. For example, 1,382 in 2000–01 was not the highest total; the peak was 3,912 in 2004–05. The claim that 3,821 was the highest total is also inaccurate, and the table’s percentage increases are not reported. Focus on the overall rise in totals and slight injuries, alongside the less consistent fatal figures, and support this with accurate comparisons.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The response makes some attempt to move through the years in sequence, using phrases such as “in 1999 to 2000” and “in 2001 to 2002.” This gives the reader a basic chronological thread. However, ideas are not arranged into a clear overview followed by organised details, and the repeated year-by-year statements make the progression difficult to follow. Linking words such as “Moreover,” “However,” and “According to” are sometimes used without a clear logical relationship, while references like “another table” are confusing because the task presents one table. Group the information into paragraphs—for example, an overview and then key trends—and use comparisons to connect related figures rather than listing isolated observations.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “fatal,” “serious,” “slight,” “total,” and “increased,” so the reader can recognise the general subject. However, the vocabulary is basic and repetitive, and several word choices or collocations make the meaning unclear. Phrases such as “fatal rate,” “serious activities,” and “serious issues of gun and knife” do not accurately describe injury counts; “fatal cases” and “serious injuries” would be more suitable. There are also spelling errors, including “Morever” and “Howeer,” and “percentes” is not the correct form. Build a more precise range for describing figures and trends, and check spelling and word forms carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response relies mainly on short, simple statements, with little variety in sentence structure. Frequent errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries sometimes make the intended comparisons difficult to understand. For example, “which was slightly increases 653” has an incorrect verb form and unclear relationship between the figures, while “the total were 864” has subject–verb disagreement. Several sentences also lack clear punctuation or contain incomplete constructions, such as “And after some time its serious is 162.” Try using accurate comparative structures, such as “The number of serious injuries rose from 162 to 200,” and check that each sentence has a clear subject and correctly formed verb. This would make the data easier to interpret.
