Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify the broad pattern that slight injuries were the most numerous and fatal injuries the least, and you include several figures from the table. However, the account only partially reports the key information and contains important inaccuracies. For example, 3,912 is the total for 2004–05, not 2005–06; the latter total is 3,821. You also give 2,367 for 2004–05, although that is the 2003–04 total, and 2,179 for 2003–04, which belongs to 2002–03. The 2006–07 row provides only fatal injuries, so it cannot be described as the year with the lowest total. The percentage increases are also misinterpreted as proportions. Select accurate comparisons and explain the overall rise, including the sharp increase in slight injuries.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has an identifiable overview followed by a paragraph of figures, so the reader can recognise an attempt to organise the report. However, progression is weak: the body lists totals in a largely chronological sequence without grouping the main trends or clearly comparing categories. Several transitions are repetitive, particularly the repeated openings “Between…” and “A total of…”. Some links are also confusing: “However” does not clearly contrast with the preceding information, and “Simultaneously” introduces the percentage figures without a clear relationship to the totals. The overview’s “On the other hand” similarly suggests a contrast that is not needed. Grouping the data into an overview and focused comparisons, with clearer references to years and injury types, would make the organisation easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a reasonable range of task-related vocabulary, including “fatal,” “serious,” “slight,” “accounted,” and “recorded,” and the main subject remains understandable. There are also attempts at more expressive wording, such as “a whooping increase,” but this is too informal for an academic report. Some choices are inaccurate or awkward: “proportion” is repeatedly used where “number” or “total” is intended, and “percentage hike” is less suitable than “percentage increase.” The phrase “injuries claims 18% of proportion” also makes the meaning difficult to interpret. Spacing and spelling in “increaseof” and “all years combine” further reduce precision. Aim for neutral, exact language and use terms such as “figure,” “total,” and “rose by” according to what the table actually shows.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, and the overall meaning can usually be followed. However, control is inconsistent, especially in agreement, articles, and sentence construction. Examples include “slight injuries accounted the highest proportion” (missing “for”), “all years combine” (incorrect form), and “serious injuries accounted second highest proportion” (missing a grammatical link and article). “2006-2007 were time” has faulty agreement and an incomplete noun phrase, while “a total of 342% proportion was increased” is not a well-formed passive construction. Punctuation also needs attention: there are missing spaces after commas and full stops, and some sentences run together. Practise accurate comparative structures, such as “the total rose to…” and “slight injuries increased by…”, and check each sentence for a complete, correctly linked clause.
