Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the table’s subject and give a relevant overview: slight injuries are the most numerous, fatal injuries the least, and the total rises overall. However, the response is incomplete and addresses the data only partially. It stops mid-sentence at “follow,” so it does not report the later figures, the substantial rise in slight injuries in 2004–05, or the percentage increases shown in the final row. There is also a factual error: the 1999–2000 slight-injury figure is 933, not 993. The response contains 103 words, below the required 150; this leaves too little detail to summarise the main features adequately. Complete the account and select key comparisons across the period.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an introductory sentence is followed by an overview and then a detail paragraph. This gives the reader a recognisable starting structure. However, the progression is not sustained because the response ends abruptly with “follow,” leaving the final paragraph unfinished and the data summary incomplete. Linking is also limited and sometimes awkward: “Whereas” begins a fragment rather than being joined to a complete contrasting clause, and “In between 1998 to 1999” does not clearly express the time period. Use complete paragraphs to group the overview and selected details, and connect comparisons with clear, accurate transitions such as “By contrast” or “Meanwhile.”
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “fatal,” “serious,” “slight injuries,” “figures,” and “increased,” so the topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation, and spelling errors reduce precision. “How much proportion increased” is not a natural way to describe the percentage changes; “the percentage increase” would be clearer. “Rate increased drastically” is also imprecise when the table reports numbers of injuries, and “gun and crime” omits the intended reference to knife crime. Spelling errors such as “illustarte” and “peroid” are noticeable. Aim for accurate terms such as “number,” “proportion,” and “rose sharply,” and check spelling before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts both simple and more complex sentence forms, including the overview sentence beginning “Overall” and the contrast introduced by “Whereas.” However, grammatical control is inconsistent, and some structures are incomplete or awkward. “The table provide information” has a subject–verb agreement error; “Fatal injuries accounted the smallest figures” is missing a required preposition and has an unclear construction. “Whereas, Fatal injuries…” is a fragment, while the final sentence ends with “follow,” leaving it unfinished. The opening sentence also contains a difficult clause structure that obscures the meaning. Practise complete sentences, agreement, and accurate clause linking, then proofread for missing words and punctuation.
