Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the table’s subject and include an overview, noting that injury figures rose and reporting the percentage increases. However, the overview is unclear and does not accurately distinguish the main patterns. The figures for slight injuries and the total rise sharply, especially in 2004–05, while fatal injuries fluctuate; serious injuries generally rise but also vary. Some data are misreported: for 2005–06, fatal injuries were 49, serious injuries 476 and slight injuries 3,296, not 77, 411 and 1,862. The response also gives only a few selected years, omitting the striking 2004–05 peak. To make the summary more complete, compare the main trends accurately and support them with correctly selected figures.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some organisation: an opening sentence is followed by an overview, a paragraph of figures and a concluding statement. However, the progression is difficult to follow because the response moves between years and injury categories without a clear comparison. For example, “In 1998 to 1999” is followed by 2002–03 and then 2005–06, while the major peak in 2004–05 is not explained. Linking phrases such as “Overall,” “In sum” and “Their was an increase” are used, but they do not consistently clarify how the points relate. Group the information into a clear overview and a body organised by trends or periods, and use accurate references such as “this figure” or “by 2005–06” to connect comparisons.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses some relevant task vocabulary, including “fatal,” “serious,” “slight,” “total” and “percentage increases,” so the reader can identify the categories being discussed. However, the range is limited and several word-choice, spelling and collocation errors make the account less clear, such as “catogarized,” “injurios,” “most contrribution” and “increased in sections.” The phrase “a gun and knife crime” is also imprecise for describing the table’s subject. Aim for accurate, natural expressions such as “the number of injuries,” “accounted for the largest share” and “increased by.” Check spelling carefully and avoid repeating “increase” when more precise verbs such as “rose,” “climbed” or “fluctuated” would describe the data better.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, and the opening identifies the table’s subject. However, sentence structures are limited, and errors in verb forms, agreement, articles and punctuation occur frequently enough to make some relationships unclear. For example, “Overall, there wos sharp increase followed by serious and slight” lacks a clear grammatical structure, while “It grows year by year” shifts tense and has an unclear subject. The sentence beginning “In 1998 to 1999” also joins several figures without a complete, well-formed comparison. Use past tense consistently for the historical data, make each sentence’s subject explicit, and separate figures into complete clauses. Careful control of commas, spacing and sentence boundaries will also improve readability.
