The table depicts the number of different type of injuries caused fom gun and knife crime in Great Britain from 1998 and 2007, along with proportion of increase for each degree over the 9-year period.

Overall, the number of injuries grew with time, with most of them being slight injuries.

Initially, 864 injuries were reported in [redacted phone], out of which 49 were fatal , 162 were seriour and 653 were nominal. In next year, the number increased with 23 injuries for fatal, 38 for serious and 320 for slight injuries. the number injures continued to rise being 72 and 244 for fatal and serious respectively, whereas number was 1066 for minor injuries in 2000 to 2001.the number of life threatening injures declined in 2002 to 2003 in comparison to 2001 to 2002 from 95 to 80, however it contiued to grow for other 2 categories from 392 to 416 for severe injuries and 1390 to 1638 for slight injuries making the sum to 2179 from 1877.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify the broad pattern that injuries increased and that slight injuries were the largest category, and you include several relevant figures. However, the account is only partially accurate and does not give a sufficiently clear overview of the main changes. For example, slight injuries rose sharply to 3,424 in 2004–05, but this major change is not highlighted; the stated 1,638 for 2002–03 should be 1,683. The final paragraph also says serious injuries reached 479, whereas the table gives 476 in 2005–06, and describes a steady annual rise despite a fall from 437 to 411 in 2004–05. The percentage increases are omitted. To strengthen the response, select the key trends accurately and compare the categories across the period.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic structure, with an opening, a brief overview and paragraphs describing earlier and later years. Chronological sequencing and connectors such as “Overall,” “Initially,” “however” and “Then” help the reader follow the general direction. However, progression is weakened by long, crowded sentences that combine several years and categories, making comparisons difficult to track. The final paragraph repeats the idea of continued growth in serious injuries and contains a confusing contrast between that claim and the statement that injuries were unreported in 2007. Some transitions are also abrupt, and punctuation around sentence boundaries is inconsistent. Grouping the main trends by injury type, then using shorter sentences to compare key periods, would make the organisation clearer.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary for describing data, including “increased,” “declined,” “continued to rise” and “reported,” and you attempt to distinguish injury severity with terms such as “fatal” and “life threatening.” However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or inconsistent. “Nominal” does not mean slight in this context, while “serious,” “severe” and “life threatening” are used as if interchangeable categories. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “fom,” “seriour” and “contiued,” and phrases such as “number increased with 23 injuries” are not natural collocations. Use the table’s category labels consistently and practise precise language for increases, decreases and totals.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including clauses linked with “whereas” and “however,” and the overall meaning is usually recoverable. Nevertheless, errors are frequent, particularly in sentence boundaries, articles, agreement and sentence construction. For example, “In next year” needs an article, and “the number increased with 23 injuries” uses an incorrect grammatical pattern. Several sentences run together after full stops or begin with lowercase letters, as in “the number injures continued…” and “but the reported…”. The long sentence beginning “the number of life threatening injures declined” also lacks clear punctuation and control of its clauses. Aim for shorter, complete sentences and check articles, verb forms and punctuation before submitting.
