Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify several relevant patterns, including that fatal injuries were the least numerous and that slight injuries formed the largest category. You also report the 18%, 194% and 405% increases, which match the table. However, coverage is partial: the overview does not summarise the substantial rise in the total, from 864 to 3,821 by 2005–06, and the response ends without a clear account of the overall trend. Some details are inaccurate or unclear: fatal injuries peaked at 95 in 2001–02, but the lowest figure was 49 in both 1998–99 and 2005–06; slight injuries peaked at 3,424 in 2004–05, not 3,296 in 2005–06. Select the main comparisons more carefully and explain the total trend.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs discussing fatal/serious and slight injuries. This gives the reader a basic route through the information, and phrases such as “Overall” and “In contrast” signal the intended relationships. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow because several figures and comparisons are compressed into long, loosely connected sentences. For example, the sentence beginning “An analysis of the image reveals” moves from the fatal peak to the lowest value and then to the percentage increase without clearly separating these points. Some linking is mechanical or unclear, as in “In contrast” where the paragraph continues the same general comparison. Group related figures and use clearer sentence boundaries and references.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use a range of terms related to injury and change, including “fatal,” “serious,” “slight,” “portion,” “increase” and “peaked.” This shows an attempt to vary vocabulary rather than repeat the table labels throughout. However, several choices are inaccurate or unnatural for a statistical report, such as “percentage hikes,” “serious hurts,” “slight harms” and “fatal cases highest injuries.” There are also spelling and word-form errors, including “lite,” “injures” and “traumas,” which make some descriptions harder to interpret. Prefer precise, conventional terms such as “injuries,” “figures,” “rose” and “accounted for.” Aim for accurate collocations rather than replacing basic words with unusual synonyms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple statements and more developed sentences, including an overview beginning “Overall” and a contrast introduced with “In contrast.” However, control is inconsistent, and errors in sentence structure, agreement, articles and punctuation sometimes make the data difficult to understand. For example, “fatal cases highest injuries 95” lacks a clear verb and grammatical relationship, while “serious traumas it is least cases” has an incomplete structure. The phrase “serious hurts experience an steady increase” also has agreement and article problems. Commas are frequently attached to the preceding word, and some sentences run several ideas together. Build each comparison around a clear subject and verb, and check articles, agreement and sentence boundaries.
