Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify several relevant extremes, including the fatal-injury peak of 95 in 2001–02, the serious-injury peak of 476 in 2005–06, and the total peak of 3,912 in 2004–05. You also report the percentage increases, so the response includes useful details from the table. However, the overview is unclear and largely repeats that one year had the highest total, rather than summarising the main overall pattern. The figures show that injuries generally rose over the period, with slight injuries accounting for the largest numbers and a sharp jump in 2004–05. Also, the slight-injury peak was 3,424 in 2004–05, not 3,296 in 2005–06. A clearer overview and more accurate comparisons would make the summary more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic paragraph structure: an introduction, two paragraphs of figures, and a concluding overview. Connectors such as “In general,” “Furthermore,” and “Overall” help signal stages of the response. However, progression between points is not always clear, and some linking phrases are awkward or repetitive, such as “Another highest” and “Additional the total.” The final sentence repeats the claim about the highest total without adding a broader summary. Grouping the data more deliberately—for example, discussing the overall rise first, then comparing injury categories—would create a clearer line of development. Use linking words to show precise relationships between figures rather than simply introducing another point.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “fatal,” “serious,” “slight,” “period,” and “increased,” which allows the reader to recognise the categories and trends being discussed. However, the range is limited, and several word choices or forms are inaccurate or unnatural, including “significants,” “serious injuried people,” and “has rised.” The repeated use of “highest” also makes the description less precise. Spelling errors such as “stastics” and inconsistent capitalisation of “Great Britain” reduce the overall accuracy. Build a small set of accurate terms for describing figures and trends, such as “recorded,” “reached a peak,” and “rose by,” and check spelling and word forms before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts both simple and longer sentence forms, and the reader can generally identify the figures being reported. However, control is inconsistent, and errors in sentence structure, agreement, articles, and punctuation often make the writing difficult to follow. For example, “This table provide information” has subject–verb disagreement, while “the total from the three conditions are highest year” lacks a clear grammatical structure. Several sentences run figures and time periods together without adequate punctuation, as in “2005 to 2006.additionally.” Practise forming complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and use accurate past-tense reporting patterns such as “The number reached 476 in 2005–06.” Careful sentence boundaries and proofreading would improve clarity.
