Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the table’s subject and report several relevant figures, including the fatal-injury peak of 95 in 2001–02 and the overall total of 3,821 in 2005–06. However, the overview is not consistently accurate: “It keeps increasing” overlooks fluctuations in fatal and serious injuries, and the highest total is described as the highest “percentage of crime.” The claim that there were no serious or slight injuries in 2006–07 is unsupported; the table shows dashes, not zero values. You also omit the key comparison that slight injuries were the largest category and had the greatest percentage rise. To strengthen the response, give a precise overview and distinguish the final year’s missing figures from actual zeroes.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, an overview and paragraphs describing the figures over time. Chronological sequencing helps the reader follow the data, and transitions such as “Additionally” and “Moreover” connect some points. However, progression is weakened by repeated or awkward links, including “Whereas” used to begin a sentence without a clear contrast, and the final paragraph combines yearly changes with percentage increases. Some references are unclear, as in “the numbers” and “the digit,” while the overview repeats information later rather than establishing the main patterns. Group the data by meaningful trends—overall totals, injury categories and percentage changes—and use linking phrases only where the relationship between ideas is clear.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some relevant vocabulary for describing data, such as “declined,” “fluctuated,” “peak” and “percentage increase,” which helps communicate the main subject. However, word choice and collocation are often imprecise: “percentage of crime” is used for a total number, “crime rates” refers to injury counts, and “less injorious crimes” is unclear. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “intial,” “singnificant” and “Folllowing,” which reduce accuracy. Repetition of “numbers,” “crimes” and “injuries” limits the range. Use precise terms such as “recorded injuries,” “total cases” and “slight injuries,” and check spelling and word forms before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a mixture of simple and longer sentences, including clauses introduced by “Although” and “As,” but complex structures are often incomplete or awkward. For example, “Although the numbers fluctuated in fatal and serious injuries. the total number…” incorrectly separates a dependent clause from its main clause, and “Followed by the rate of fatal crime…” is a fragment. There are also errors in agreement and sentence construction, such as “the number of crime rates were highest,” as well as inconsistent punctuation and missing spaces after full stops. These issues sometimes make relationships between ideas difficult to follow. Practise forming complete sentences with clear subjects and verbs, and check agreement, clause boundaries and punctuation.
