Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the broad rise in recorded injuries and include several relevant figures, including the total of 864 in 1998–99, the peak total of 3,912 in 2004–05, and the final fatal-injury figure of 58. You also note that later figures are unavailable for some categories. However, the overview is unclear and does not accurately summarise the main pattern: totals rise to 3,912 in 2004–05, then fall to 3,821 in 2005–06, while slight injuries account for the largest numbers. Some details are misreported: fatal injuries did not reach their highest level in 2004–05, and the percentage increases refer to 1998–99 to 2005–06 or 2006–07, not “98 to 99 percent.” Select the key trends more precisely and distinguish counts from percentages.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has a basic paragraph structure, moving from an introduction and overview to selected years and then the percentage changes. Time references such as “In 1998 to 1999” and “in 2006 to 2007” help the reader follow the data. However, progression is uneven: the overview repeats that crime increases without clearly setting out the main trends, and the final paragraph introduces the percentage figures in a confusing way. Connectors such as “Moreover” and “Lastly” are repeated or do not show the precise relationship between ideas. Some sentences also combine several comparisons, making the information difficult to track. Organise the body by a clear comparison—overall totals and injury categories, followed by percentage changes—and use linking phrases that accurately signal contrast or sequence.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-related vocabulary, including “fatal,” “serious,” “slight,” “percentage increase,” and “recorded,” so the reader can generally identify the categories being discussed. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, sometimes obscuring meaning. For example, “fatal crime” and “slight crimes” refer to injuries in this table, not crimes, while “fatal attacked” is unclear. “Magnificantly high” and “raised to the highest level” are not natural ways to describe the figures. There are also spelling errors such as “illusrates,” “Moverover,” and “rase.” Use precise data vocabulary consistently, such as “fatal injuries,” “rose,” “fell,” and “accounted for,” and check spelling before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentences, and some information is communicated successfully, particularly the sentence noting that no figures are available for serious, slight, and total injuries in 2006–07. However, sentence structures are often faulty, and errors frequently make relationships between ideas unclear. Examples include “In some years is steadily increased,” which lacks a clear subject and has an incorrect verb form, and “the fatal and slight crimes raised,” where the construction is not grammatical for describing a rise. Agreement and articles are also inconsistent, as in “the number ... were 58.” Punctuation and spacing around full stops and commas need attention. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and build shorter, complete sentences before combining comparisons with clauses.
