Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5

The response identifies a few relevant features, including the peak in total crime in 2004–2005, the comparatively low figures at the start, and the dominance of slight injuries. It also correctly notes that fatal injuries rose to 95 in 2001–2002. However, the report is incomplete: it stops mid-sentence at “Serious wound was,” so it does not summarise the remaining trends or compare the percentage increases. The overview is also imprecise: the table records injury counts, not crime as a whole, and the total is highest in 2004–2005, not necessarily crime generally. The response is 81 words, below the required 150; this severely limits coverage and development. Include a complete overview and key comparisons across the period.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an introductory sentence is followed by an overview and then a detail paragraph. This gives the reader a recognisable starting structure. However, the progression is cut off when the final paragraph ends with “Serious wound was,” leaving the discussion unfinished and preventing the ideas from developing in a logical sequence. Connections between points are also limited; the overview lists features without showing how the injury categories changed over time, and there are no linking expressions to guide comparisons. Complete each paragraph, group related figures together, and use clear transitions such as “By contrast” or “Meanwhile” to connect trends. A fuller, logically ordered report would make the information easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The response uses some task-relevant vocabulary, including “fatal,” “serious,” “slight injuries,” “peak,” and “proportion rise,” so the topic is generally identifiable. However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or awkward: “line graph type table” misidentifies the visual, “gun and knife crime was maximum” is not a natural way to describe the figures, and “slight wounds” is less precise than “slight injuries.” There are also spelling errors such as “consequenntly” and “evey.” These issues make parts of the report less clear, although the main subject can still be understood. Use accurate table-reporting terms and practise collocations such as “the number of injuries peaked” and “the percentage increase.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response includes a few simple sentence patterns and attempts a more complex opening, but grammatical control is inconsistent. For example, “Fatal injuries(49) was lower” has a plural subject with a singular verb, while “The least number were” also has faulty agreement. The opening sentence is difficult to parse because several ideas are joined without clear grammatical structure. Punctuation is weak, including missing spaces after commas and before parentheses, and the final sentence, “Serious wound was,” is incomplete. These errors sometimes make relationships between the figures unclear. Build complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, check singular and plural agreement, and use punctuation to separate the overview from supporting details.
