Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify the table’s subject and report two valid overall comparisons: the total was lowest in 1998–99 (864) and highest in 2004–05 (3,912). You also recognise that slight injuries rose substantially and fatal figures fluctuated. However, the account is only partial: it gives few supporting figures and does not clearly describe the serious-injury trend or the final available figures. The statement that percentages were “going to above 97” is unclear and does not accurately summarise the listed increases, which range from 18% to 405%. The overview also says the total increased in later years without noting the fall from 3,912 to 3,821. Select the main trends and support them with accurate comparisons.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is a basic structure, with an opening, a paragraph containing an overview and some trends, and a concluding statement. The reader can follow the broad topic, and phrases such as “Overall” and “In conclusion” signal stages of the response. However, ideas are not consistently arranged into a clear progression: the overview mixes categories, totals, and vague comments, while “The 98 to 99 increased in 2005 to 2007” is difficult to interpret. Repetition of the general idea that injuries increased, especially in the conclusion, takes space without adding a new comparison. Organise the response into a concise overview followed by grouped details, and use clear references to years and injury categories.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “fatal,” “serious,” “slight,” “fluctuated,” and “percentage,” so the subject is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or unclear, such as “slightly injuries,” “accounted in,” “patients,” and “through the used of guns and knives.” “Substancialy” is also misspelled, and “above 97” does not communicate a clear percentage comparison. These issues sometimes make the intended meaning difficult to identify. Aim for precise table language, such as “injuries,” “the figure stood at,” and “the proportion increased by,” and check spelling and word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response uses mostly short, simple statements, with a few attempts to link ideas, for example, “The slight is increased, serious is slightly rose and the fatal is fluctuated gradually.” However, errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction are frequent and sometimes obscure the intended meaning. Examples include “The highest number was accounted in 2004 to 2005 was 3912 total,” “The 1998 to 1999 years was less injuries,” and “the injuries was increased.” The sentence beginning “Overall” also contains fragments: “The fatal, serious and slight.” Build accurate simple sentences first, using past-tense forms such as “rose,” “fell,” and “fluctuated,” then combine them with clear comparisons.
