Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify relevant overall features: slight injuries were the largest category, and the total was highest in 2004–05. However, several details are inaccurate or unclear. The table begins in 1998–99, not 1988–99, and the peak total is 3,912 in 2004–05, rather than simply saying most violence happened then. You also report slight injuries as 3,496 in 2005, whereas the table gives 3,424 in 2004–05 and 3,296 in 2005–06. Serious injuries peak at 476 in 2005–06, not in 2006–07; that final year has no serious-injury figure. To strengthen the report, compare the categories and totals accurately and explain the overall rise and later changes.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, an overview and paragraphs containing details. This helps the reader identify the main topic. However, progression within the detail paragraph is difficult to follow: the fatal-injury figures move from 1999 to 2002 and then 2007 without consistently naming the table periods, and the serious-injury statement is not clearly connected to the figures. Linking phrases such as “Overall” and “On the other hand” are attempted, but the latter does not introduce a clear contrast, and some sentences run together or repeat the idea that injuries increased. Organise the body by category or by overall trend, and use precise references such as “in 1998–99” to make comparisons easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-related vocabulary, including “fatal,” “serious,” “slight,” “increased” and “highest,” so the reader can understand the broad subject. However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or unnatural for describing a table. “Most violence happened” does not precisely describe the number of recorded injuries, while “serious violent” and “slight violence” confuse injury categories with acts of violence. Phrases such as “people hurt more” are also vague. Aim to use the table’s terminology consistently and choose verbs that describe data, such as “rose,” “peaked” and “accounted for.” More precise collocations would make the comparisons clearer and more appropriate to an academic report.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts both simple and more extended sentences, including “Furthermore, Most type of injuries were slight it also showing that as year is passing people hurt more.” However, many sentences contain errors in agreement, tense, articles, punctuation or sentence boundaries, which sometimes make the meaning difficult to follow. For example, “Most type of injuries were slight” needs a plural form, and “it also showing” lacks a correctly formed verb. In “which was fall down and reached at 58,” the verb construction is faulty. Capital letters are also used inconsistently within sentences, and several clauses are joined without suitable punctuation. Practise writing shorter, complete comparisons first, then combine them using accurate clauses and consistent past-tense forms.
