Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the table’s subject and report the percentage increases, including the much larger rises in slight and serious injuries. However, the response only partially summarises the data: it gives no clear overview of the main pattern across the years, and the final claim that people were using violence more often is an unsupported interpretation. Some figures are misreported: 476 serious injuries is for 2005–2006, not 2006–2007, and 3,296 slight injuries is also for 2005–2006; the 2006–2007 figures for these categories are not provided. The response contains 131 words, below the 150-word minimum; 33 words copied from the prompt were excluded from the count. Add a concise overview and accurately compare key stages.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has a basic sequence: it introduces the table, gives percentage changes, and then provides examples for serious and slight injuries. This gives the reader some sense of the topic, but the ideas are compressed into one paragraph and there is little overall progression from an overview to supporting details. Linking phrases such as “we can see” are repeated, while “so” introduces a broad conclusion rather than a data-based comparison. Organise the response into clear paragraphs, use an overview to guide the reader, and group related figures together. More precise references to the years would also make the comparisons easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant vocabulary, including “fatal,” “serious,” “slight,” “percentage increase,” and “escalated,” so the topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or informal for an academic summary. “Slight crimes” confuses the injury category with the crime itself, while “case of serious injuries” is an awkward collocation. Phrases such as “huge increase” and “the problem in this era” are imprecise, and spelling errors such as “compered” and “howerver” are noticeable. Use the table’s category labels consistently and choose neutral, precise language to describe changes and comparisons.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response communicates its main points through mostly simple clauses and attempts to connect ideas with “so” and “howerver.” However, the range of sentence structures is limited, and frequent errors affect accuracy. For example, “crime in britain is serious thing” is missing an article, and “we have 162 case” has a number-agreement error. The sentence beginning “the serious and slight gun and knife crimes increased very much” runs into further information without clear punctuation, and commas are often separated from the preceding word. Practise accurate articles, plural forms, sentence boundaries, and punctuation. A few well-controlled complex sentences would help express comparisons more clearly.
