Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify the table’s subject and give an overview by noting the highest and lowest totals, then include several figures and the percentage increases. However, the response is incomplete: it contains 128 words, below the required 150, and the overview does not clearly summarise the main pattern across the period. Some details are misreported: 3,296 slight injuries and 3,912 total belong to 2004–05, not 2005–06; the 2001–02 figures are not the highest for fatal or serious injuries, which peak at 95 in 2001–02 and 476 in 2005–06 respectively. The final year also has no total or injury breakdown beyond fatalities. Add a fuller overview and accurately compare the key trends.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has a basic paragraph structure: an introduction, an overview, and a paragraph with further figures. Linking words such as “Overall” and “Whereas” show an attempt to guide the reader. However, the progression is limited because the final paragraph combines a peak figure with percentage changes without clearly grouping or explaining them. “Whereas” introduces a contrast, but the relationship between the lowest total and the subsequent rise is not expressed smoothly. Some references, such as “these type of crime,” are unclear, and the repeated focus on individual figures makes the account feel list-like. Organise the body around clear comparisons—for example, totals over time and changes by injury severity—and use linking phrases to show those relationships.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant vocabulary for describing data, including “fatal,” “serious,” “slight,” “percentage increase,” and “total.” This gives the response a minimally adequate range for the task. However, several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision, including “eah,” “higest,” and “comming.” Some phrases are also unnatural or imprecise, such as “number of crime,” “slight injured crime,” and “facing the drastic rise of crime.” These choices can make the reader pause, even though the intended meaning is generally recoverable. Use standard data-reporting collocations such as “number of injuries,” “the total rose,” and “slight injuries,” and check spelling carefully before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “the highest number … hitting 3912 where 77 of them were fatal.” The main information is usually understandable, but grammatical control is inconsistent. Subject–verb agreement is incorrect in “The table illustrate” and “the highest number … is”; articles and number forms are also problematic in “the highest number of injury” and “392 were serious.” The sentence beginning “Whereas” is a fragment, and the long final sentence joins several ideas without clear grammatical structure. Use complete sentences, check singular/plural agreement, and separate the figures into shorter clauses. More accurate sentence patterns would make your comparisons easier to follow.
