Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify several relevant features, including the peak in fatal injuries in 2001–2002 (95), the highest serious-injury figure in 2005–2006 (476), and the overall total peak in 2004–2005 (3,912). You also note that slight injuries were the largest category and report the percentage increases. However, the overview is not consistently accurate: serious injuries peak in 2005–2006, not across “2005–2007,” and the slight-injury peak is 3,424 in 2004–2005, not “2004–2006.” The table gives no injury breakdown for 2006–2007, so avoid implying figures are available for that year. Select the main trends more precisely and compare the steady rise in slight injuries with the fluctuations in fatal injuries.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic structure, with an introduction, an overview and further details, and the reader can generally identify the figures being discussed. However, progression is limited because the final paragraphs repeat points already made: the fatal-injury peak and the highest total appear more than once. Linking is also somewhat mechanical, particularly with “Moreover,” which introduces another list rather than developing a clear comparison. Some references are unclear, such as “lowest recorded in the past,” because the period being compared is not specified. Group the overview separately, then organise the details by injury category or by overall trends, using clear comparisons to guide the reader through the data.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant topic vocabulary such as “fatal,” “serious,” “slight,” “percentage,” and “recorded,” so the subject is usually understandable. However, the range is limited and several expressions are repetitive or imprecise. “Attacks” is used repeatedly for injury counts, although the table reports injuries rather than numbers of attacks; “minor injuries” also varies from the table’s label “slight.” Phrases such as “a large number … are recorded” and “highest number … are recorded” are repeated instead of using more precise trend language. There is also a spelling error in “Great Britian.” Aim for accurate terms such as “injuries,” “figures,” “rose,” and “reached a peak,” and vary your wording without changing the data’s meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt some longer sentence forms, including the opening sentence and the overview, but control is uneven and the response relies heavily on simple statements. Several sentences have problems with articles, agreement or sentence construction. For example, “Overall, highest fatal attacks are recorded” needs an article, while “The total highest number of attacks are recorded” has a subject–verb agreement problem and an awkward structure. The phrase “while lowest recorded in the past” is incomplete because it lacks a clear subject and verb. These errors sometimes make comparisons harder to follow. Practise forming complete comparative sentences, for example, “Fatal injuries peaked at 95 in 2001–2002, whereas the lowest figure was 49 in two years.”
