Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the table’s subject and include an overview, noting that slight injuries rose substantially and that fatal cases peaked in 2001–02. However, the overview is not fully accurate: total incidents did not increase every year, since the total fell from 3,912 in 2004–05 to 3,821 in 2005–06. The claim that serious injuries were highest in 2005–06 is supported, but the statement that slight injuries increased by “double” the serious-injury increase misreads the percentages: the increases were 405% and 194%, respectively. Several key comparisons are missing, and some trends are described vaguely. Select the main figures and compare them accurately, especially the sharp rise in slight injuries and the later fall in the total.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs of details. This makes the information reasonably easy to follow, and linking expressions such as “Overall,” “However,” and “Moreover” help signal relationships. However, progression is sometimes weakened by unclear or repetitive statements. For example, “the crime rate is gradually increases every year” is followed by a claim about the least crime in 1998–99, without clearly distinguishing the overall total from individual injury categories. The final paragraph also lists percentage changes without a clear comparison or connection to the earlier figures. Organise the details by injury type or by overall trend, and use references such as “the total” and “these cases” precisely.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant vocabulary for describing data, including “reported,” “rapid growth,” “slightly drop,” and “dramatic increase.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms make the meaning less clear. “Crime rate” is not quite the same as the number of recorded injuries, while “fatal persons cases” and “serious injured patients” are awkward combinations. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “gratually,” “paticants,” “accure,” and “injuried.” Use accurate terms for the table’s categories and vary the language for increases and decreases. Proofreading spelling and choosing natural collocations would make your comparisons clearer and more precise.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more developed sentences, and the response is generally understandable. However, errors in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence construction occur frequently enough to make some statements difficult to interpret. For example, “The given tables illustrates” has a plural subject with a singular verb, and “the crime rate is gradually increases” combines incompatible verb forms. “The fatal cases is increase” also has errors in agreement and verb form. In addition, “Their is a slightly drop” contains an incorrect subject form and article/adjective pattern. Practise building accurate sentences with a clear subject and verb, such as “Fatal cases increased” or “There was a slight drop,” before adding more complex clauses.
