Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the main pattern that slight injuries were most numerous and fatal injuries least numerous, and you include several relevant figures, such as 49 fatal and 162 serious injuries in 1998–99 and 3,296 slight injuries in 2005–06. However, the account only partially covers the table: the percentage increases (18%, 194%, 405% and 342%) are not reported, and the final line, “The % INCREASE WAS ALSO”, is unfinished. Some trends are also inaccurate or unclear: serious injuries did not rise continuously, falling from 437 to 411 before increasing to 476, and the table gives no serious or slight figures for 2006–07. Develop a complete overview and select the key comparisons more accurately.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, an overview and paragraphs describing figures and trends. Time markers such as “From 2000 to 2002” and “In 2006 to 2007” help the reader follow the chronology. However, progression is weakened by repetition: the point that slight injuries were highest and fatal injuries lowest appears in both the overview and later discussion, while the final sentence is incomplete and leaves the report without a clear ending. Some links are also awkward or unclear, particularly “However from 2002 onwards” and the shift from yearly figures to percentage increases. Group the data into clearer comparisons and use linking phrases to show how each paragraph develops the overview.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a reasonable range of task-related vocabulary, including “fatal injuries”, “considerable rise”, “declined” and “dramatic increase”, so the main subject is generally clear. However, several choices are imprecise or unnatural: “crimes” is used where the table reports injuries, and “relatively less fatal” does not accurately describe slight injuries. “Reported” is also repeated in ways that do not fit naturally with figures, and spelling and typing errors such as “og”, “nad” and “IN” reduce control. Aim for precise terms such as “injury cases” and “the figure stood at”, and check spelling and capitalisation carefully. More accurate collocations would make the comparisons clearer.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast with “while” and a time clause beginning “after being decreased”. Some sentences communicate the intended trend, but errors are frequent enough to affect fluency and clarity. Examples include missing spaces after punctuation (“Overall, total”), the malformed phrase “T he number”, and inconsistent sentence punctuation. The construction “after being decreased to 49” is awkward and grammatically unclear; a direct form such as “after falling to 49” would be more controlled. There are also problems with sentence boundaries and capitalisation, including the unfinished final sentence. Practise accurate punctuation and use straightforward past-tense clauses to report changes.
