Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main overall pattern: injuries rose substantially, slight injuries were the largest category, and fatal injuries increased least by percentage. You also report the peak total in 2004–05 and the subsequent fall, which are relevant comparisons. However, some details are inaccurate or unclear: 476 refers to serious injuries in 2005–06, not a figure that is “more than doubled like” from 162; the table gives 58 fatal injuries in 2006–07, while the percentage comparison is through 2006–07 for fatalities. The overview would be stronger if it clearly distinguished the percentage increases from the annual counts and noted the sharp rise in slight injuries in 2004–05. Some selected trends are reported, but not all are explained precisely.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure, moving from an introduction and overview to details about totals, serious injuries, slight injuries and fatalities. This gives the reader a generally coherent route through the information. However, links between points are sometimes mechanical or unclear. For example, “Followed by this” and “Comparison to all these” do not connect the comparisons naturally, and “While the fatal injuries…” is not integrated smoothly with the preceding sentence. The paragraphing is serviceable, but the overview and detailed comparisons could be separated more clearly, with each paragraph organised around a consistent focus. Use precise references such as “by contrast” or “in comparison” only where the relationship between figures is explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “total number of injuries,” “serious injuries,” “fatal injuries,” and “increased,” so the main information remains understandable. There is also some attempt at varied description, such as “dramatic increase” and “most prominent.” However, several choices are imprecise or unnatural for describing a table: “from gun fire and knife crime” is awkward, “minor injuries” is used instead of the table’s “slight injuries,” and “increased small in their number” does not express the intended comparison clearly. Repetition of “increased” and “number” also limits flexibility. More accurate collocations and consistent use of the table’s category labels would make the report more precise and fluent.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrast with “While the fatal injuries…” and a time clause describing the later decline. Most of the meaning can be followed, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “Total number of injuries were highest” has an agreement problem, and “it slightly drop” uses the wrong verb form. The sentence beginning “Followed by this” is also incomplete as written, while “the number increased and become more than doubled” has inconsistent tense and an awkward construction. Punctuation is sometimes missing, as in “with time.While”. Check subject–verb agreement, maintain past tense for the historical figures, and make sure each sentence has a complete main clause.
