Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify several important peaks, including slight injuries at 3,424 in 2004–05, serious injuries at 476 in 2005–06, and the fatal-injury peak of 95 in 2001–02. However, the overview is not fully accurate: slight injuries did not rise year after year, since they fell from 3,424 to 3,296, and the total was highest in 2004–05 but then remained high at 3,821 in 2005–06. The statement that units are percentages is also incorrect; the percentage figures refer to increases over the period, while the yearly entries are counts. To develop the response further, summarise the overall rise in recorded injuries and distinguish the broad trends from individual peaks more clearly.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction and overview are followed by paragraphs on slight, serious and fatal injuries. This makes the categories easy to follow, and time markers such as “then” and “in 2005-2006” help show sequence. However, the overview repeats details that are revisited in the body, and the repeated pattern of “it is” plus a figure makes the progression somewhat mechanical. Some references are also unclear, as in “it has subtle increased,” where the reader must infer that “it” means serious injuries. Grouping the main trends together and using clearer references would make the comparisons more cohesive.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for describing data, including “increased,” “declining,” “fall,” and “highest,” so the main trends are generally understandable. However, several choices are imprecise or unnatural for a table summary. “Units are measured in percentage” mislabels the figures, while “high in number” and “amount” are less suitable than language referring to counts or totals. Phrases such as “subtle increased” and “on whole” also show limited control of collocation and word form. Aim for precise terms such as “number,” “figure,” “rose,” and “fell,” and use “percentage increase” only for the final row of the table.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

Your sentences communicate the main points, and you attempt some longer structures, for example, “Serious injuries have increased till 2003-2004 then a slightly decrease is seen.” However, the response relies heavily on simple sentence patterns, and some verb forms and sentence structures are inaccurate. Examples include “then again start declining,” “it again start rising,” and “Fatal injuries again dropped … and again rising,” where the verbs do not form a consistent grammatical structure. The sentence beginning “Overall” also joins several observations in a way that would benefit from clearer punctuation and clause structure. Practise combining comparisons with accurate past-tense verbs, since the table reports completed years.
