Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify several important peaks accurately: fatal injuries reached 95 in 2001–02, serious injuries peaked at 476 in 2005–06, slight injuries at 3,424 in 2004–05, and the total at 3,912 in 2004–05. You also report the percentage increases in the correct order. However, the response is only 141 words, below the required 150, and it gives no clear overall summary of the broad pattern across the years. It focuses mainly on maxima and percentages, omitting useful context such as the general rise in injuries and the later decline in the total. The table also has no serious, slight or total figures for 2006–07, so avoid implying that all categories cover the full period. Add a concise overview and a few comparisons to develop the summary.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic, understandable sequence: it first reports the category peaks and then discusses the percentage increases. This gives the reader a clear sense of the two main parts of the table. However, the organisation is limited to two paragraphs, and the first paragraph strings several observations together in one long sentence using repeated phrases such as “moving onto” and “After observing.” These links feel mechanical rather than showing relationships between the figures. The second paragraph is also largely a list. To improve progression, use a separate overview and group related comparisons—for example, the injury categories with their peaks, followed by the overall change—and use clear referencing to connect the points.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant vocabulary for describing the table, including “percentage increase,” “maximum number,” and the injury categories, so the main information is generally clear. However, the range is limited and several expressions are repetitive or imprecise, particularly “injuries” and “we can see.” Phrases such as “the most injuries happened” are not natural collocations for reporting statistics, while “in the fatal section” sounds more like a table location than a data category. There are also spelling errors in “occured” and “ooccured,” which reduce accuracy. Aim for more precise reporting language and vary your verbs, while checking spelling carefully. This would make the description more fluent and appropriately formal.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response communicates its main points through mostly simple sentence patterns, with some attempts to combine ideas using clauses such as “which was 95 injuries.” However, the range is limited, and the long opening sentence is awkwardly constructed, joining several category comparisons without clear sentence boundaries. There are also errors in forms and phrasing: “from the year year 1998 - 2007” repeats a word, and “the highest injuries … was” has a mismatch between the plural subject and singular verb. The phrase “the highest was 405% which is in the slight section” also shifts tense and has an unclear grammatical link. Use shorter, controlled sentences and check agreement, tense consistency, and punctuation.
