Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the main pattern that slight injuries were the most numerous and report several relevant figures, including the fatal-injury peak of 95 and the final fatal count of 58. However, the overview is incomplete and partly inaccurate: the largest figure for all categories except fatal injuries was not in 2005–2006, since slight injuries peaked at 3,424 in 2004–2005, while serious injuries peaked at 476 in 2005–2006. The account also omits the total column and its substantial rise, and the claim that slight injuries doubled in 2005–2006 is unclear and does not accurately describe the trend. The response is 141 words, below the 150-word minimum. Develop a fuller overview and select accurate comparisons to address the task more completely.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs describing injury categories. Sequencing from fatal to serious and then slight injuries is generally understandable, and transitions such as “To begin with” and “Furthermore” help signal movement between points. However, the progression is limited because the total figures are not discussed and the final paragraph is very brief, ending without a concluding comparison. Some linking is mechanical, and “Whereas” begins a sentence fragment rather than connecting two complete clauses. Group related trends more clearly, use transitions to show meaningful comparisons, and ensure each paragraph develops its point rather than listing figures.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a relevant range of task vocabulary, including “fatal injuries,” “steady growth,” “maximum value,” and “percentage increase,” so the topic is generally clear. There is some repetition of “injuries,” “figure,” and “increase,” and several expressions are imprecise or awkward, such as “with the double the number” and “with 162 and 476 number respectively.” “Depicted” is also used repeatedly where simpler verbs such as “rose” or “fell” would sound more natural. These choices do not prevent the reader from understanding the main points, but they limit precision and fluency. Aim for accurate collocations and vary reporting verbs while keeping the language natural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mixture of simple and more complex sentences, including a relative clause in the opening and a contrast in “Whereas, it depicted a fall.” However, errors in agreement and sentence construction recur. For example, “The table illustrate” should be “The table illustrates,” and “Whereas” is incorrectly used to start a dependent clause as a standalone sentence. The phrase “with the double the number” also has faulty article and sentence structure, while “with 162 and 476 number respectively” lacks a grammatically complete comparison. Punctuation and spacing around percentages are inconsistent. These errors are usually understandable, but more accurate clause construction and agreement are needed for stronger control.
