Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You include several relevant figures, such as the starting total of 864, the rise to 3,912 in 2004–05, and the final fatal-injury figure of 58. However, the response only minimally fulfils the task because it does not give a clear, accurate overview of the main trends. The overview mainly restates the table’s categories and date range, rather than identifying that slight injuries were consistently the largest category and that the total rose sharply before easing slightly. There are also factual errors: serious injuries in 1999–2000 were 200, not 162, and the 2002–03 total was 2,179, not 2,197. The final paragraph’s recommendation that crime should be stopped is not appropriate for a data summary. Prioritise an accurate overview and select key comparisons.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has a basic paragraph structure, moving from an introduction and overview to figures and a concluding sentence. Time markers such as “To begin with” and “Furthermore” also help signal sequence. However, the progression is difficult to follow because the figures are mostly listed year by year without grouping or explaining the overall pattern. Some links are unclear, as in “Between 2000-2001 their showed a total,” and the overview repeats information rather than guiding the reader through the main features. The final recommendation shifts away from the report and weakens the ending. Organise the body around meaningful trends—for example, the early rise in totals and the sharp increase in slight injuries—using clear references and fewer mechanical transitions.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “fatal,” “serious,” “slight,” “total,” and “increased,” so the reader can generally identify the subject and categories. However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the meaning less clear. Examples include “seriousinjuries,” “injuriers,” “percentages increase,” and “This conclude.” The repeated use of “injuries” and “increased” also makes the report sound repetitive, while phrases such as “their showed a total” are difficult to interpret. Aim for accurate data-reporting collocations and vary verbs such as “rose,” “reached,” and “fell.” Check spelling and word forms carefully, especially for key terms and percentage descriptions.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts both simple and longer sentence forms, and the sequence of years gives you opportunities to use past-tense reporting. However, complex attempts are often faulty, and frequent errors in agreement, articles, and sentence construction can make the information harder to follow. For example, “This table illustrate” needs subject–verb agreement, while “the Fatal injuries were forty nine” has an unnecessary article and inconsistent capitalisation. In “In 1999-2000 fatal increased to sixty two, serious to one hundred sixty two,” the sentence structure is incomplete and the figures are not clearly attached to their categories. Practise complete comparison sentences with consistent past tense, such as “Fatal injuries rose from 49 to 62, while serious injuries increased from 162 to 200.”
