Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You identify some relevant features, including the peak in 2004–2005 and the much larger number of slight injuries, and you include a few figures. However, the response only partially summarises the table and is incomplete: it stops mid-sentence and does not provide a clear account of the main changes across the period. Some claims are inaccurate or unsupported. Serious injuries did not increase every year, and the final year reports fatal injuries only because the other figures are not provided; it does not show that only fatal crimes happened. The percentage increases are also reversed: slight injuries rose by 405%, while serious injuries rose by 194%. The response is 24 words below the required minimum. Develop a complete overview and select accurate comparisons.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some organisation: an introductory sentence is followed by an overview and then an attempt to discuss figures. This gives the reader a basic sense of the response’s structure. However, progression is limited, and the final paragraph breaks off at “1862 in 2004-”, leaving the comparison unfinished. Connections between ideas are sometimes unclear, particularly where the overview moves from the peak total to serious injuries and then to the final year without explaining how these features relate. The phrase “In 1998-1999 … with” is also left incomplete. Use separate, complete paragraphs for the overview and key data, and ensure each comparison is finished and logically linked.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, such as “fatal”, “serious”, “slight injuries”, “increased” and “dipped”, so the reader can recognise the subject and some trends. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which makes parts of the report awkward: “total amount of crimes” is not a natural way to describe the figures, and “significant amount of crimes” is imprecise. There are also spelling errors, including “sligh”, “happend”, “Throuth” and “injuties”. Use precise terms for counts and injury categories, and check spelling carefully. Avoid calling the figures “crimes” when the table records injuries resulting from crime.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response includes some simple sentences and an attempt at a more complex construction, as in “Slight and fatal incidents rose throughout the period … except in 2004-2005 when they dipped slightly.” However, the range is limited, and errors or incomplete structures occur often enough to affect clarity. “In 1998-1999 slight injuries where around three times as much as the serious injuries with” has incorrect verb agreement and an unfinished ending; “Statistics of the last year showed that only fatal crime happend” also has problems with number and sentence construction. The final sentence is incomplete, so its comparison cannot be understood fully. Practise complete, controlled sentences and check agreement, articles and punctuation before finishing.
