Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the table’s subject and report several relevant figures, including the fatal-injury peak of 95 in 2001–02, the slight-injury peak of 3,424 in 2004–05, and the percentage increases. However, the overview is unclear: “higher number in slight injury” does not clearly summarise the overall pattern, and the response omits the substantial rise in total injuries from 864 to 3,821 by 2005–06. The claim that fatal injuries were lowest in both 1998–99 and 2005–06 is accurate, but the table also shows 49 in both years. The response is 126 words, below the required 150, so the main features are not sufficiently developed. Add a clear overview and compare key changes across the period.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic structure: an introduction, an attempted overview, and details about fatal, slight and serious injuries followed by percentage changes. This gives the reader some sense of how the information is grouped. However, progression is limited, and the linking phrases “Looking in to the diagram” and “Turning towards in to the figure” are repetitive and do not clarify the relationships between points. The overview is difficult to follow, while the final sentence lists percentages without connecting them to the overall trend. Organise the body around a clear comparison—for example, injury counts first and percentage increases second—and use concise transitions such as “By contrast” or “Overall” only where they express a real relationship.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “fatal,” “serious,” “slight,” “percentage rise” and “highest,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several phrases are inaccurate or unnatural, which sometimes makes the meaning difficult to follow. For example, “the use of Gun and Knife crime statistics higher number” does not express a clear comparison, and “medium is in serious injury” is not an appropriate way to describe the categories. “Looking in to the diagram of table” is also an awkward, repetitive phrase. Use precise reporting language such as “the number of injuries,” “accounted for,” and “increased by,” and check spelling, including “Britain.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts a few longer structures, including “which is 49” and the sentence beginning “Then, seeing the increased…,” but most sentences rely on simple patterns, and the longer attempts are often faulty. Examples include “In 2001-2002 has highest fatal injury,” which lacks a clear subject and article, and “Serious injury is been on 2005-2006,” where the verb form and sentence structure are incorrect. There are also problems with articles, plurals and prepositions, as in “in slight injuries, in 2004-2005 has the highest injury.” These errors make some relationships hard to understand. Practise complete subject–verb sentences and accurate past-tense reporting, such as “Fatal injuries peaked at 95 in 2001–02.”
