Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the broad pattern that total injuries rose and that slight injuries were the largest category, and you include several relevant figures, such as the initial total of 864 and the 18% increase in fatalities. However, the overview is unclear and some reporting is inaccurate: slight injuries rose from 653 to 3,296, but their peak was 3,424 in 2004–05; serious injuries reached 476 in 2005–06, not simply “went up 476.” The fatal figure of 95 is a count, not a percentage. The response also does not meet the 150-word minimum, leaving important comparisons and the final-year data insufficiently covered. A clearer overview and accurate, selective comparisons would make the report more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is some organisation: the response begins with a general trend, then gives early-period figures and discusses the injury categories. Linking expressions such as “in contrast,” “before,” and “overall” show an attempt to connect information. However, the progression is difficult to follow because the response is presented in two long, loosely connected blocks, and several ideas run together without clear sentence boundaries. For example, the shift from the total to slight injuries and then serious cases is abrupt, while the final discussion of fatalities and the total increase is hard to interpret. Group the overview separately, then organise the details into clear comparisons, using accurate links and punctuation to show how each point relates to the next.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You attempt task-relevant vocabulary, including “fluctuating,” “dramatic changes,” “categories,” and “peak,” and you distinguish among fatal, serious, and slight injuries. However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms make the meaning unclear, such as “expending” for the rise in slight injuries and “the fatal injuries are elevat steadly.” Spelling errors, including “largly,” “steadly,” and “follwed,” are also noticeable and reduce precision. Some phrases are not natural for describing table data, such as “total crime” and “the total number of injuries are dramatically upward trend.” Build a reliable set of trend expressions and check spelling and collocations so that your comparisons are easier to understand.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts to combine information and use contrast, but sentence structures are mostly simple or run together, and errors are frequent enough to make some relationships difficult to understand. For example, “the total number of injuries are dramatically upward trend” has problems with agreement and sentence structure, while “the serious cases are also went up 476” combines incompatible verb forms. The phrase “their peak are 95 percent” also has agreement and sentence-pattern errors. Punctuation and capitalisation are inconsistent, with several clauses joined without full stops. Practise forming complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and use past-tense forms consistently when describing the figures.
