Student answer (Band 5.5)

In this era, everyone has to deal with new cultre and new technologies. Globalizations means many counties are able to work and interact together using air travel, internet, trade and popular culture. The globalization has both advantages and disadvantages.

The main advantage if the globaliztion is economic growth and better life. There are so many varities are availabe to choose for. Beacuse of the international trade peope can get the lowest products from other counties. People can choose whatever they want even travel across the countries. As example, Sri Lankan people can buy accesories, cloths with new trends and many items from China, India by using internet. Also, because of the internet, students can learn from universities in other countries without travelling. Air travel also helps people to find jobs abroad and send money to their families.

The other advantage is cultral undersanding. people can see and able to celebrate different traditions, eat new traditional food and by using internet will able to learn and how to respect about the tradition. As an example, the Indian tradition and foods take a differnt place in everyon heart specially if people visit to India and experienced it.

There ate more disadvantages of globalization as well. First one is small business has to face few difficulty beacuse of the globaliztion. Most if the time people try to use internstionsl trend and online platforms to purchase items, they will hesitate to go the shops and purchase items. this will be a hige issue for small business owners. The second drawback is thier traditional culture are going to fade. Many young people are trying to use the western cultures.

In conclution, there are both advantanges and disadvantages of the glibalization. But I belive that there are many advantage than disadvantages. This gives people to more knowlage, cltural ideas, global trend and more.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You discuss both benefits and drawbacks and give a clear overall preference in the conclusion: “there are many advantage than disadvantages.” Relevant benefits include access to goods, online learning and overseas employment, while the drawbacks concern pressure on small businesses and the fading of traditional culture. However, the response only partly develops the task: the opening says globalisation has advantages and disadvantages, but your own view is not made clear until the conclusion. Several points are asserted rather than explained—for example, how international purchasing harms small shops, or why young people adopt Western culture. The examples about Sri Lankan consumers and Indian food help, but need more detail and a clearer link to your argument. State your position early and extend each main idea with explanation or a specific consequence.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall arrangement: an introduction, paragraphs on benefits and drawbacks, and a conclusion. The paragraphs generally keep to their stated topics, and signposts such as “The main advantage,” “The other advantage,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the structure. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes loose. The benefits paragraph moves from trade to travel, education and employment without clearly grouping or connecting these points, while the cultural paragraph combines several ideas in a difficult sentence. Some linking is mechanical, and references such as “The second drawback” are not followed by a fully developed explanation. Use clearer topic sentences and connect each example directly to the claim it supports; this would make the progression more consistent and cohesion less dependent on repeated signposting.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “international trade,” “traditional culture,” “online platforms,” and “economic growth,” so the main ideas are usually understandable. There are also attempts to express a range of concepts, such as cultural understanding and overseas employment. However, the range is limited and several spelling errors or inaccurate word choices are noticeable, including “globaliztion,” “varities,” “accesories,” and “cultral undersanding.” Some phrases are also unnatural or imprecise, such as “the lowest products” and “take a differnt place in everyon heart.” These issues can make the reader pause to interpret your meaning. Build a reliable set of topic-specific collocations and check spelling carefully; for example, use “affordable products” and “hold a special place in people’s hearts.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including a reason clause beginning “Because of the internet” and a sentence explaining that students can learn from overseas universities. This shows some effort to vary sentence forms, and the overall meaning is generally recoverable. However, control is inconsistent, particularly in longer constructions. For example, “There are so many varities are availabe to choose for” has faulty sentence structure, and “people can see and able to celebrate” lacks a parallel verb form. There are also problems with articles, agreement and punctuation, as in “small business has to face few difficulty” and the lower-case sentence beginning “people.” Practise building accurate subject–verb patterns and parallel structures, then proofread for sentence boundaries and articles. More reliable control of these forms would make your ideas easier to follow.
