Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays ,thanks to the internet ,air travel and popular culture, globalisation is rapidly spreading. Many people argue that this increase of global interaction is something positive. However ,I can argue that gloabalisation has numerous advantages , but it can come with some issues too.

To start with, globalisation enable cultures to interconnect and exchange norms and values .However ,popular cultures can dominate the minorities ,thus they may risk losing some of their idioscyncracies and causes the diminishing of their identity. For example ,many eastren countries are starting to blindly follow westren culture ,wearing the same clothes ,eating the same food ,and even celebrate the same holidays ,consequently ,you may not even differentiate between a westren and an eastren.

In addition, globalisation can be used for political goals and to impose some agendas. Some countries could use main stream media and movies to deteriourate the image of other cultures and market their culture as the supreme one .For instance , several movies picture arabs as someone illiterate lives in the desert and easy to manipulate.

To conclude , despite the globalisation advantages ,when people misuse it and be unaware of how to open up to other cultures, this can lead to cultural assimilation and become culturally alienatated. That is why globalisation is thing but with constraints and propoer social awarenss.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You discuss both a benefit and risks of globalisation, and your position is broadly that it can be positive but needs safeguards. The examples about cultural influence and films portraying Arabs support your concerns, so the response is relevant to the question. However, the discussion is partial: the benefits are mentioned only briefly, while most of the essay focuses on cultural harm, and the conclusion’s view that globalisation is acceptable “with constraints” is not fully explained. The response also falls short of the required minimum length, leaving limited space to develop reasons and examples. To strengthen the response, explain a concrete benefit, develop each main point with clearer reasoning, and state your position more directly throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. Paragraphs generally have a clear focus, and signposts such as “To start with,” “In addition” and “To conclude” help readers follow the sequence. However, progression is somewhat mechanical, and the relationship between the brief mention of cultural exchange as a benefit and the subsequent criticism could be made clearer. Some linking is awkward or unclear, particularly “despite the globalisation advantages” and the final sentence, which does not express the conclusion’s logic smoothly. Develop each paragraph through a clearer point, explanation and example, and use referencing and transitions to show how ideas connect rather than relying mainly on formulaic markers.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some topic-relevant vocabulary, including “global interaction,” “cultural assimilation,” “identity” and “agendas,” and these choices help communicate the central concerns. There is also an attempt to express nuanced ideas, such as cultural dominance and alienation. However, spelling errors and imprecise or unnatural word choices are noticeable and sometimes make the reader pause: examples include “gloabalisation,” “idioscyncracies,” “deteriourate” and “alienatated.” Phrases such as “main stream media” and “globalisation is thing” are also not expressed naturally. Build accuracy by checking spelling carefully and learning common collocations, while choosing precise terms for the intended meaning. This would make the vocabulary more reliable and flexible.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “although” or “however” and a conditional idea in “when people misuse it.” This gives the response some structural variety. However, control is inconsistent, and errors in agreement, verb forms, articles and sentence construction occur often enough to affect clarity. For example, “globalisation enable” needs subject–verb agreement, while “they may risk losing … and causes” shifts incorrectly between verb forms. The example “picture arabs as someone illiterate lives in the desert” also has an unclear clause structure. Punctuation spacing and comma use are inconsistent. Practise building accurate complex sentences and check that subjects, verbs and parallel forms agree before adding further clauses.
