Student answer (Band 6.5)

In this modern era, many people book air tickets, run businesses, attend popular festival and so on by using the internet. Some people think that communicate with other nations through globalization is a positive thing. From my perspective, I partly agree with the view and believe that globalization have some strong merits if we use a balanced approach.

On the one hand, one of the major reasons why globalization is beneficial is that tread relationship with other nations. For example, people exporting goods from other countries without going there, companies ordering products through online, which built trust between the nations. It eventually increase the national economy and international as well. Therefore, globalization is important for boosting economy. Another advantage is that exchanging culture. People can easily explore another culture through the internet. For instance, a concert in New York City can be enjoyed in Bangladesh despite having large distance. Therefore, people can easily understand another customs and culture.

On the other hand, one of the major drawbacks of globalization is that excessive use of mobile phone. Students are losing their valuable times by scrolling social media because they can find anything within a second through the internet and they get hocked. For example, learners often use YouTube for watching reels of different celebrities all over the world instead of informative or educational videos. This example demonstrate that excessive use of the internet can have detrimental affect on students studies and kill their valuable times.

In conclusion, although globalization have some drawbacks in society, it also have some positive side. I still believe that a balanced approach would be helpful for everyone.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing the benefits and drawbacks of globalisation and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding the 'drawbacks' focuses exclusively on mobile phone usage and social media, which is a narrow interpretation of the negative impacts of globalisation. While the position is clear, the supporting points could be more thoroughly extended to demonstrate a deeper understanding of the topic. The response covers all parts of the task, but the depth of analysis is inconsistent, which is characteristic of a Band 6.0 performance.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is organised into clear paragraphs, each with a central theme. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'For example', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and there are instances where the logical progression is slightly disjointed, such as the transition between the economic benefits and cultural exchange. Referencing is generally clear, but the use of linking words could be more varied and sophisticated to achieve a higher band. The overall structure is logical and easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for a higher band. There are several instances of awkward phrasing or incorrect word choices, such as 'tread relationship' instead of 'trade relations' and 'get hocked' instead of 'get hooked'. While the student attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'globalisation' and 'international economy', the range is somewhat limited. The errors in word choice do not generally impede communication, but they do highlight a need for more careful attention to collocations and word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('globalisation have', 'it also have') and article usage. Some sentences are also structurally incomplete or awkward, such as 'people exporting goods from other countries without going there'. While the meaning remains clear, these persistent errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. A greater focus on proofreading for subject-verb consistency would significantly improve the accuracy of the writing.
